Yeah, right. When I first moved back up here from the South, everyone sounded like fricken' geese - "Wow, that's a great big haaaaaahnkin'(honking) hole, yaaaahhh(yea)?" I think it's some weird mutation of all the Swedish, Dutch and German settlers in this area. Ten years later, I sometimes find myself saying "oh yaaah?"
That is the one and only regional accent in the US that actually drives me crazy.

My first exposure to that was the mom on the cartoon "Bobby's World" when I was a kid, and I've been highly irritated by it ever since. Other than that, it's just certain words pronounced certain ways that bother me, and I have no logical explanation.
The word "roof" pronounced "RUFF"
When "wash" becomes "waRsh," and of course results in "waRshington"
The letters "o" and "u" together are pronounced "OW." NOT "OH" or "OO." This bizzare speech pattern is a result of people forming words in the very front of their mouths, against their teeth.
"Sorey aboot thaht, I'm a Canadian woman doing voice-overs for child characters in American cartoons, so I say 'Sore-y' for 'Sorry'!"
The thing that bothers me the most is that I know, deep down, that I'm only irritated by those things because they're different from me.
