Default Any guitar knob with any guitar pot?

I've come into some money so I want to do something frivolous with my guitar!

I hate the nasty vinyl see-through type knobs on my SG copy and I was wondering if I could swap them for metal ones like these:

    http://www.guitargear.co.uk/home/m/Shop/id/2/page/1/

Would it work? Would it look stupid? I am getting new pickups and so I've been told it's probably best to get some pots too, so as they're standard, knobs are standard too?

Thanks for any advice anyone can give ^_^

Yes, it will work. Those particular knobs have a little screw pin that clamps the knob to the pot shaft. They'll work on pretty much anything.

btw, I'm putting the same on my LP copy. Depending on the colour of your SG, I bet they'd look very nice.

It's got a set screw, so you're cool. I have a set on my SG-X. I'd have them on my Standard, but I think the stock knobs fit the look.

It's cherry red and everything is silver, so silver ones will be nice

Set screw knobs are cool. It's the push-on knobs you have to be careful with.

I've got nearly the exact knobs on my Jackson. They look and feel great, IMO. They should look killer on your SG.

Thanks for the info everyone ^_^

Oh, also, how can you guarantee the quality of the pots you buy.. anywhere? None i;'ve seen actually have a brand, and you might be paying a lot for bad ones or put off by cheap ones that might be excellent...

I have those knobs on my Charvel, but I'm switching to vintage-style, and a new pickguard as soon as the parts arrive from Warmoth. Helpful bunch, those guys.

If you can look at the pots themselves, this will help. If you can find the 7 or 8 digit source-date code the first three numbers will be "137" for CTS pots, which are generally considered the best around.

Allparts and several other companies have CTS make pots for them. If you stick to them or one of the big name companies (Gibson, PRS, etc.) you should get pretty good pots.

Pretty much any of them will work, but the good ones tend to last longer.

I intend to only wire the volume controls if possible as I never change the tone on the guitar, and I am getting a Custom custom and a Pearly Gates so would it be better to just get two 500s or two 1000s ?

I saw a stereo jack socket! What is that for?? I thought guitars are mono.
