Question Pickups for a seven string

    hey guys

on the weekend i bought a 7 string j&d luthiers guitar

    http://www.jandd-guitars.com/jd-st73.htm

from my local cash converters for 200 bucks, in mint condition. Its my first veuture into 7 strings, and so far i really like, though the pickups kinda leave a lot to be desired. I was looking to play progressive metal ala Queensryche, Dream Theatre.. if anyones got any thoughts id love to hear them

    thanks guys

Looks interesting.. Seymour Duncan do not make production line 7 string single coils though.. You need to order them through the custom shop.

What you can do is perhaps put a humbucker in the neck?

Sh-6 Distortion and SH-2 Jazz will be a very nice combo if you dont want to go Dimarzio.

to be honest, id like to keep the hum-sing-sing setup, its something a little different. Other than order through the custom shop, ive seen kent armstrong 7 string single coils, and theres the Dimarzio Blaze.. thats all ive seen. if anyone knows of any others?

Gee.. I cant help you much more..

I only know of those two.

I have never tried the Dimarzio Blaze middle.

www.ericguitars.com have the Blaze middle for pretty cheap it has to be said.

Perhaps try ordering one for starters?

J&D guitars rock! My uncle has a strat copy and a jazz bass copy, and they are mighty fine instruments!

Don't know about the pickups though

the bridge humbucker isnt actually TOO bad, though it flabs out on the low b string an awful lot.. something im really trying to avoid. Other than that, it feels really solid, great neck, after some minor truss rod and action adjustments. id definitely recommend them

the flabby 7th string is a problem on a lot of 7-strings, try fitting a new 7th, or increasing the gauge of that one string in your set?

my ibanez 7621 has had a JB in it, but i have a tonezone in there now - basswood ibanezes seem to suit the ceramic mags and high-power winds DM seem to prefer!

what's the body made out of dude?

    Alder it would be..

DMZ released a few new 7 string models.

    Drop Sonic and X2N..

You should consider the D Sonic.
