Default Playing a competitive sport over 35

I started playing indoor soccer about two months ago. Haven't played over a decate, I almost passed out after 5 minutes in the first match. After playing 6-7 matches, I feel much stronger and faster with much quicker recovery from exhaustion. I also lift weight two three times a week and now I have to control myself not to run over the opponent. Today, one guy got angry because I was too physical. Man, what a change.

Once I read that playing a competitive sport (basketball, soccer) is highly recommend if you are over 35. I think I understand why. Also, I'd like to suggest anyone over 35 to pick up a competitive sport.

I'm actually playing soccer twice a week now, and another couple times a week just kicking the ball around. It actually feels pretty good to be out and doing something. I just hope I can keep it up, I have a lot of years of wear and tear on this body from playing a lot of soccer early in my career. I unfortunately sustained a lot of injuries in my high school/select soccer career (mainly 6 dislocated knees and about 10 concussions). Playing co-ed now is a little less competitive, but I still get run over quite a few times. Thank god for sport turf though, it has saved my knees.

My dad used to be on a 55 and over softball team. There were some guys out there pushing 70, and they looked like they were having the time of their lives. I'm sure it's good for you.

Maybe. But the recovery time is extended exponentially with your age.

The key is do get into a regular schedule. I'll be the first to admit, it is hard to recover from bumps and bruises quickly though. Playing regularly does help the soreness aspect out a bit.

My gigs always seem to have elements of contact sports in them, so I guess when I start playing out again I'll be doing exactly that.

"Good news....with the great weather you guys are going to be playing outside!"

    "Really?"

"Yeah...now start lugging the PA up the five flights of stairs up to the roof."

    "....dammit!"
