Anyone know when & why they went from "Elite" to "Elitists" ?
Anyone have one or ever play one?
Are the differences between an off the shelf Epi & Gibson worth the cost ???

Nope -and don't care. Generally awesome guiatrs. Played a few. Truly an option above a regular epi and Gibson verison of exactly the same guitar. Honetstly, I'd say they are the perfect price-point LP. You are getting pretty much what you're paying for there. Standard epiphones, you get a little less than what you paid usually, and Gibson you get WAYYYYYY less than what you pay. Elitist is right on.

I suddenly want an Elitist. I love my Epiphone Les Paul to death, but the wood shall be the death of me, which.. loving it to death will likely cause?

I'd look hard at all the used LP Studios and Stds that come my way. The Elite series is cool, but only if you're into buying brand new.
Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.
Agreed. Definitly keep an eye out on ebay and maybe some pawn shops? Check craigslist too. You can get a used real Gibson Les Paul for as low as $800 (or that's what I've seen).Originally Posted by Benjy_26

I am pretty certain it was due to some lawsuit over the name.
Ebay's the best right now. I used to buy ALL my gear in pawn shops and craigs list in the late 80's/early 90's. The pawn shop scene isn't what it used to be now that chain stores like Guitar Center are buying up used goods. If pawn shops have anything good they end up ebay'ing itOriginally Posted by Rushfan2112
By the way, great deals can be had in the used section of Guitar Center, and they're a little negotiable.

One thing to keep in mind is that Japiphones usually have a slimmer type neck, and the Edwards/Tokais etc have big beefy R9 style necks.
I'm an internet person. All we do is waste time evaluating things that have next-to-zero real world significance.

Several board members picked up the Elitist Les Paul Standards when MF was selling them for $699 last December.
<- Mine is in my Avatar.
At that price (and as a 'bedroom' player only) it meet my needs for 'Les Paul' type guitar. It only needed one or two setup tweeks to play.

+1. That was a great price on a serious piece of gear. Nothing wrong with Japanese guitars. THe quality is usually excellent.Originally Posted by bert123

Thats very true as well!

They probably switched from "Elite" to "Elitists" because there's more than one model? Or wait, doesn't Schetner have that "C1 Elite" model? Maybe it was that...
I read an interview in GuitarOne where a reviewer basically had an orgasm over how great the Elitist SG was...made me curious, since it means Epi really has a winner series of guitars on their hands...
Also, a bunch of guys on the warped tour are using Elistists now...

So, something along the lines of a Gibson Studio Plus or a Standard would actually be a better value....????

The BEST value of any Les Paul is a USED Les Paul.Originally Posted by PUCKBOY99
Customs depreciate the most. They mey cost $3,000 new, but you can but many used ones for $1800. $2500 1957 reissues can be had for $1800. Standards go for $1200-$1800, Classics for $800-$1200.
I've never tried an Epiphone Elitist, but it looks like a "real" Les Paul. I've tried regular Epiphones and they feel like toys, they should cost no more than $400. For $400-$500 you can get a Korean made Dean which is a much more solid guitar. Elitists are priced right and fair.
+9 on this. Man speaks the truth.Originally Posted by jmh151
Used Studios are very good deals. Japanese guitars are very high-quality, but IMO USA is still numero uno. You can get a used Studio in MINT condition for the same price as a new Elitist. Used Gibsons are some of the best deals around (not always the cheapest, but think of how much you save for the quality).
