Default JD is incredible...what humbucker for neck?

The JD is so smooth, I want a little grit/sizzle from the humbucker (neck) for blues/rock. My first inclination is a Pearly Gates- anyone have experience with this combo? Thoughts or opinions appreciated. P.S.- this will be in a '72 custom with alder body and maple neck. Thanks in advance.

I'm very happy with the PGn in my Tele, it would probably be your best bet!

    +1

If you want grit and sizzle from a humbucker, the Pearly Gates is the #1 choice of the guys on the forum.

The JD matches very well with either a SETH or a Pearly Gates in the Neck

I didn't know John Denver had his own signature pickup. But, yeah I think a Pearly Gates would add some sizzle and match up well with the ol' J Dizzle.

    That would make more sense.
