Default Baker Guitars made by Gene Baker

    Hello-
I live in Santa Maria CA, which use to be home of Baker Guitars. A while ago(1.5-2 years ago) I bought 3 unfinished necks at the Going out of buisness Baker Auction. I bought them for $75 each. I sold them right away for $300, $250, and $125. They were very nice necks, pretty standard, mahogany, beautiful inlay-Baker logo, one w/ brazilian rosewood, and the other two with indian rosewood.

I wonder sometimes if I should have kept them, or one of them?
Also, about what you think about Baker guitars, and if they will be worth more down the road? Thanks

I've only ever heard wonderful things about Baker guitars, too bad Ed Roman picked up the name.

I just jammed with Gene and friends a few months ago - a few miles outside of Santa Maria in Teposquet Canyon. I got to play one of his guitars.. nice nice nice guitar for sure.

I just had to post in this thread. Mean Gene is a prince of a guy and one bad-ass guitarist. He used to be very supportive of my old band in San Luis Obispo, always showing up at the gigs. I even got to kick it with him at his old shop in Santa Maria before he went to work for Fender (I think). I think I'm going to see if I can get him to build me a nice mahogany carved top for my next guitar.

edit: I know he's back on the central coast, but I'm not really sure if he's still producing axes. If I learn anything, I'll post it here.

Congrats man! That is a great milestone.

I took my upper division math at UCSB in the 90s. I also got a networking certification there. Beautiful school in definite California style, by the ocean.

Yes Gene is making guitars again on a very limited basis.

I played an Ed Roman Baker that I found used at a Sam Ash in Brooklyn. Nice, but felt like a Schecter Diamond Series. Not a bad guitar, matter of fact very nice and well built, but it doesn't seem like it could compare to the original Gene Baker made Bakers
