Exclamation help with Antiquity Neck PU!!!

I just got the Antiquity neck pu to replace a 57 classic in my RI 61' SG. The 57 Classic was just to harsh, trebly, metallic. I just put in the Antiquity but there is a huge volume drop off. I had the guitar plugged straight into the amp and everything on 10......wide open and there is hardly any volume. I'm supposed to get some Derek Trucks type gain/overdrive tones, but I'm not even pushing the amp into overdrive. Just sounds very warm and clean. Did I do something wrong with the wiring? Please help....I've been waiting all week for the pickup to arrive, its in my guitar and I can't get the tone everyone has been saying I'll have.

That sounds strange? There should be a very slite volume drop off due to the difference in the antiquity and the 57 but not like you are describing. Do you have meter so you can can check the reading on the pickup? They usually have a tag on the antiquity that shows the read out (DC resistance)when it was put together at the SD shop but it is possible that something could have happened during shipping and it is not functioning properly. If you don't have a meter I would just check all of your connections. Make sure the braided wire is grounded to the top of the volume pot and the "pushback" black wire is soldered to the correct lug on the volume pot.

Sometimes if I am having a problem like that I will just plug the guitar in then play a little bit with the connections. In other words, wiggle the black pushback wire connection or the ground and see if there is a difference or if the volume comes in then out, then you can pinpoint the problem.

We gotta get this figured out cause I have a feeling you are gonna love the antiquity if you can get it working correctly.

Sounds like messed up wiring to me (especially if it's really quiet).

Ok, found the problem. There was a loose connection, but barely. The volume works now. I'm gonna put some new strings on and then I'll post my results. Can't wait!!!

I notice a big difference in the tone of the pickup. Everything is a little subdued and sweet. Just the right thickness/chunk, just the right top end roll off especially, and very articulate note clarity. Just about perfect from what I can tell so far. Gonna take some tweaking and some practice in some live situations, but I can already tell its gonna be a winner. I'm sure I'll just fall in love when I play out live and hopefully get some good remarks about the tone. I'm thinking about ordering one for my 335.
