Default How Can I Keep My Neighbors Cats Off my Deck?

    Seriously.

I have some neighbors (good in all regards) whose cats keep pissing and crapping on my deck. It stinks and I'm sick of cleaning up after them. The'yve ruined a couple tablecloths, BBQ covers, etc too. I don't want to create bad blood with good neighbors, so what's the best way to keep their cats away?

Again, cool neighbors so no BB gun or poison solutions (I know you guys).

    That would do the trick.

A dog would be a great deterrent, but I'm a working man and can't leave a dog alone out on my deck all day.

I heard ammonia soaked rags keep 'em away, but I don't want to be out hanging rags everyday.

You could try putting catnip out somewhere away from your deck. They would probably hang out where the catnip is.

Try what I did for getting rid of the skunks that were tearing up my lawn:

Cayenne Pepper and dark Chili Powder. I sprinkled it on their paths and around the holes under the fence where they were coming thru. It took a while but they don't seem to like my yard much anymore. Try sprinkling those two powders all over your deck. As long as it does'nt rain it should sweep right off.

Either that or try ond be ready with the hose when they come by.

Throw ice cold water on them a few times when they're there when you're home. That often gets old fast for cats.

But seriously, the iced water has worked for me.

I suggest an active laser containment system. It involves a series of 27 class III lasers installed at right angles along pre-determined travel routes. Power settings range from mild electrical shock type pulses to fur removing blasts all the way up to fatal kill shots. Installation takes about 27 hours at a cost of approximately $8,943.12. Your electric bill will also increase approximately $42 dollars a month.

Or you can open a can of tuna, mix in some anti-freeze and solve your problem for $7.49. (assuming tuna is on sale 2/$1.00 and you have to buy a whole gallon of anti-freeze). Your cost could be reduced drastically if you borrow both the tuna and the anti-freeze from your neighbor with the cats.

Otherwise, one of these and some catfood as bait might do the trick nicely:

I'm with Mike M. here. The Cayenne Pepper trick works like a charm! I had a raccoon problem with my garbage.( Them crafty Lil' bastards can open the lid on a garbage can and spew the contens all over your yard! ) Once Ole' rocky got a snoot full of the Cayenne Pepper I liberally poured around my cans...He's moved on to greener pastures.

I had a cat that kept waking me up at 5 AM at the bedroom door that lead to the outside patio. About the 4th time, I got a little water pistol and started hosing him. That didn't deter him much. So, I then picked him up the next time and underhanded him into the swimming pool. It's about a 15 foot toss. I kinda like to get some good air under it like a slow pitched softball.

It only took two tosses into the pool to teach the cat how it was going to be. I've never had a problem again.

Without killing the cat, I'd say they make some repellent stuff you can spray on your stuff. But that's not too cool if you end up getting it all over yourself.

How about some of those high frequency electronic deterents you can plug into a receptical on your porch? Something so high it pisses off the cats, but you can't hear it

They make a cat/dog repellent spray that you can buy at the pet store. We got some to keep our cats away from the christmas tree. I don't know how well it works outdoors but it did the trick inside.

Just hose 'em. Won't hurt them and seems to work well.

Put some cat food in a mason jar, then pound it well. Bye bye kittie.
