Default what humbuckers in a custom SG?

    Hi everyone
i'm gonna get my custom neck-thru SG styled guitar.
    woods:
    neck - walnut and ebony
    fretboard - ebony
    body - mahogany
it's going to be AC/DC ,Zeppelin and other from heavy blues to heavy metal.
i was thinking of set of '59 but it can be a little too bright with ebony fretboard,
i also considered Pearly gates with something hotter in the bridge... or A2PH in the neck and pearly gates in the bridge
    any thoughts?
    thanks for help

it might be also set of PG's
almost everyone says that is marvelous set of paf style pickups, with good tube overdrive i think i could get nasty and heavy distorted sounds with top end like Angus Young , what do you say?

If the guitar is a 1:1 SG spec except for the neckthru, you´ll almost certainly want something with quite a "scooped" response, because a neckthru SG will make the mid spike of a Normal SG look like a joke.

You´ll probably want something more on the dark /warm side as well, because the Walnut /Ebony neck + Ebony board will add high end sizzle and brightness not very typical of an SG.

For the Bridge I´m thinking either an A2Pro or a Blues Parallel Axis might work well... I woould definitely steer away from the PG in that appliation becasue the guitar should be overly bright already (compared to a normal SG), ad at the bridge position too much bright = shril + thin.

For the neck a Pearly may actually work well, depending on how clear you want the tone..... I´d probably tend more towards a ´59n, or possibly even 59b if the bass response seems to be lacking still.....

Thaks Zerberus , you're just reading my mind
warm/dark sound of pickups with bright snapy sound of ebony + deep warm mahogany
i want tones that are full and clear with good midrange and uppermids (and no lacking in bass)
clear is not glassy clear like strat of course i have my strat(gonna be loaded with Surfers soon) for good clean tones
that SG would be rather for deep overdriven tones from passive pickups that are not "too hot" (e.g. JB) . to my ears more vintage pickups have "Livier" tone and sound "nicer" (i can't use any vocabulary to describe that.... probably i'm not so advanced in english ;P )
So if the pickups are not too hot i could manage to get some bluesy sounds from them.
looking forward to get some other info from You Zerb
    Thanks

You are describing the BroBucker. Probably the best pickup I have ever owned. It's well worth to go to the custom shop for it.

    Good luck,

'59 neck sounds great in my ebony boarded Gothic SG. But the bridge is another animal all together. I've tried a Distortion (too much output), a '59(not enough output) and now a Demon (not open enough and kinda thin). The original 490 bridge sounded better than those pup's but lacked definition. I'm gonna try a Custom next and if that doesn't work I'll break down and get a Brobucker wound up for it.
I'll have a Gibson Flying V straight into a Mesa, hold the BS please!!!!!

I was thinking a pair of 59s would be a good match for that guitar.

    thanks for replies.
i was thinking of APH-1 in the neck and SH-11 Custom Cutom in the bridge but tone chart's EQ says it has 3/7/7 so i'm a bit afraid it could lack bass, don't you think?
anyone experienced Custom Custom in the bridge(maybe paired with alnico 2 pro?)?

    i think i've forgot a major thing -_-'
that custom sg wouldn't be thin like normal SG . Rather as thick as LP.

I cant help but thinking of the Gibson Tony Iommi Guitar Pickup - the humbucker that Tony Iommi uses in his Signature Gibson SG in that SG...

not saying you should do that/M\...

Yes, that is a major thing, because it will add a considerable amount of mahogany to the equation..... Though I still think the PUs recommended would be good matches, esp the Brobucker...

That sounds like a really nice axe! A Bare Knuckle Black Dog calibrated set, or maybe a Rebel Yell / Mule or Mississipi Queen combo would be killer in that guitar.

I don't know if it would be the best combo, but I'd start off trying the PGb in the neck and a Custom in the bridge.
    Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

I was thinking of that combination because - God knows it's awesome, and I love it, and it is my go to Classic rock / Heavy blues / and even VH guitar....but:

I gotta say no to that comb. I'm in agreement with Zerb. An SG, with that funky neck/wood/build - the CC will just be ugly with mids: Lower/Middle/Upper - across the board!

But- ignore the 3/7/7 rating; That's just bogus. CC has more bass than that! It is loose bass, and the highs are not that high. It just sounds unusual because the mids are SO high. I'd score it 5/8/6 b/m/t.

I'd worry about the PG also. That's jusrt an unusual construction on the neck and an SG. I think you need to be careful or you could easily take the high end / mids "over the top".

    Aceman got it right!
I've got a standard SG with an alnico pro II in the neck (very sweet) and a trembucker custom custom which has bass but it's too loose (**** for chugging!!) I'm considering either turning it into a custom 5 or a regular custom by changing the magnets. Any views guys? alnico5 or ceramic. I play anything from thin lizzy to mastodon.
