Default What are you currently working on?

What are you currently working on with your playing? Writing material for a band? Working on technique? Learning a song? Doodling about? Just curious.

I have been learning the Ozzy 'Miracle Man' solo by Zakk Wylde. Been spending a while with a metronome getting a fast part comfortably up to speed (first time i have ever done this!). I'm gonna learn some other solos too after this and finish off a few song ideas for my band. What are you generally up to in your practise sessions?

What are you practising? I'm just interesting in how most people practise. A thread like this has probably been done before.

Right now I'm just practicing my live chops...specifically, we have this song where in the outro it's just me and vocals going, and we try to match up note for note. It's a small part, but if pulled off well turns out really coo.

If you asked me this a month ago, I woulda told you about my much bigger challenger: The producer of the album told me "This song is good, but it needs a solo. Like, now." That wasn't an easy task by any means! It came out quite well, actually. For three days straight, I listened to a 20 second clip of the song, over and over, the thing practically burned into my brain, before I made anything worth listening to.

Technical Difficulties - Racer X. The title couldn't be more appropriate given my progress

Besides that, mostly writing in altered tunings or scoring compositions for strings/piano etc... not forgetting the odd spot of metal

Well, you ARE listed as "lead guitarist" for the band.

You could have recorded Tram sounds. That would have been unique.

    Writing and recording.

Just actually added one more project to the plate today. A very AC/DC oriented project, that will be a lot of fun!

Getting into 5 string bass. Probably going to shelve actual 6 string guitar while I get there except for maybe playing acoustic and working on my singing which has gone woefully neglected for almost a decade now.

Working on a blues\funk type side project in a addition to the punk\metal band I'm in, got 9 songs that are just about ready to go. Practicing playing while singing, expanding my vocabulary of jazz-type chords, trying to develop my soloing technique.

got some pressure to lay my guitar part down for demo recording ideas.

Mostly been working on writting, which can be tough when trying to figure out where the 2nd guitar parts fit in.

Other than that, just finished fixing/cleaning up my buddy's Ampeg. Runs fantastic now, but has now got me running around the house looking for things to solder.

Working on instrumental tunes with my drummer and bass player, getting the parts arranged so I can record some basic tracks. The trouble is that my recording setup is in my apartment, so when I'm ready I'll have to move it to a big rehearsal space.

Practicing along with my latest lesson tapes...Robben Ford, Back to the Blues

Sometimes doing all my practicing without a pick, to get my right hand fingers fast enough to sound like I've got a pick. My normal style is hybrid picking.

Writing new material for the band mostly, trying to sell off a ton of gear and simplifying my pedalboard

I should be recording some material in September professionally, so I'm practicing, practicing, practicing so that I can nail down the tone and the parts perfectly the first try in the studio. After being in a band for almost a year, I can't wait to have something professional to show for it.

The Black Page - Frank Zappa. I've made some progress, but this is one hard song.

I'm working on some more prog metal style stuff(think opeth meets nevermore and communic) and i'm writing stuff to get those ideas out.
And i'm trying to figure out two songs by communic that i'd love ot play(fooled by the serpent and frozen asleep in the park) but there are no tabs available so i'll have to do that myself.

right now (well.. not RIGHT now)

    i'm practicing along:
Intense rock (is it just me, or does gilbert have the perfect titles to go with your progress?)
    and terrifying guitar trip
which is basicaly working on technique, endurance, speed and accuracy. not to meantion learning new licks and the use thereof.

playing old sings i know and writing new riffs, though the new stuff is on hold =/

Demo track listings. I have to split 16 tracks into two separates. Then I have to record all these tracks from scratch- playing all the instruments, which can be fun, but just seems like a daunting task.
