Do you ever do so? Every time I install software, I'm asked if I want to open this file. Do you?

I always looked at it as the past tense of "read." No need to look at something I've seen before!
No, I never open them.

I don't read every word, but I at least give it a once-over to see if there's anything that I should know.
Most of the time I do, and EULAs too. I was unhappy when my WinXP Pro CD said only one computer, period. My Win2k Pro EULA said up to five home computers.

I read the read me if I run into any issues, but usually I get away without having to.

No. Why would I want to do such a silly thing? It's bad enough they get my money, I'm not letting 'em tell me what to read!

It depends on the software.

I read it all. Usually game readmes have some joke or a nice tip, something like that. When they don't the game usually sucks. Emulation readmes are the best, if you want to know.
Manuals, readmes, whatever, if it asks, I open. If it doesn't I'll play/use and then look around for it.

Haha...kinda funny that two of the IT professionals on the board actually do occasionally read the files...

But that might take the fun out of stumbling your way around the program.

Hmmm...yeah, that wears thin hehe...especially when you have to deal with Microsoft foibles all the time.

That's right. Only if I do something wrong do I read the readme, the manual, the website, customer service, or annoyingly ask people on messageboards like this.Originally Posted by LesStrat
