Default Do you guys really not use your KNOBS???

    Jeez

I read 10 posts a day where folks claim that they never use their volume and tone knobs!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? I use both to the extent that over the 12 year life of my tele I've worn out 2 sets!!! ESPECIALLY your tone knob!!! How can you just leave it wide open ALL of the time??? But then again, I guess I use the volume just as much to roll back to a clean sound.

I just don't get it. You guys don't know what you are missing!!!

    EXPLORE YOUR INSTRUMENT!

mAYBE folks don't use them because they are not nice shiny expensive new pieces of gear like their boutique amps or esoteric effects etc.. SEEMS LIKE PEOPLE SPEND WAY TOO MUCH TIME WORRYING ABOUT *TONE* AND WAY TOO LITTLE TIME PRACTISING OR WORRYING ABOUT TECHNIQUE!!!
This is dreadfully apparrent when one samples some of the "CLIPS" that can be found here (I have heard a few great ones, though)

Obviously there are two aspects to guitar that people aspire to. One is an amazing, captivating and unique tone that people can remember them by. I know that when I hear someone like Wes Montgomery, I know that it's Wes, because nobody sounds like him. Likewise with many electric artists. Then there is technique, equally important. I'm not saying one is more important, but it's good to have both. Obviously one is better than none, and not everybody is talented enough to have good technique, so they focus on there tone instead, which is fine. There are some people though that are lucky enough to have both, and yes, you can hear some of them in the clips area.

    OK rarrrwww point taken

    BUT..............

    YOU can BUY great tone...........

BUT YOU CANNOT BUY GREAT TECHNIQUE !!!!!!!!

Focus on the technique and save up for your tone !!!

Red face Re: Do you guys really not use your KNOBS???

So you want us to run scales all day and go through musictheory en masse, marry a metronome and lock our selves up
No you cannot just buy great "tone"(like Joneser I am really not all that happy with that word)
People who can play can make a trashcan sound like something from another world.
Music is more natural to some than others.
Hehe and no I never use my toneknob
But I wear out my volume ones...hehe
What is all this serious stuff by the way??
    hehehehe

I always use tone and volume all the time. And spent many years married to a metronome.

Yeah about the $€£@${$£[{€metronome....gods I hate that thing, it is way more fun with a drummer, but I have used metronomes plenty.

Actually not a bad point on the tone/volume knobs. since I have a digital amp, I tend to get spoiled by a zillion channels...patches....banks.....so rather than adjust guitar tone/volume, I just pull up another patch to simulate what I want.........that is good and bad.

I say this, because tonight I jammed with some guys using an old Marshall and it was fun for once to just have the two channels and my guitars controls. In that situation, it is nice to take full advantage of the guitars controls.

I use em plenty. Most of the time they're either on 10 or on 0 though.

I use the volume and tone control often to get the tone desired for the style I am to play. I utilize every sound I can possibly get when I play, I am very schitzo when I play.

on my strat i use the tone and volume a lot, volume more because i have found a nice tone.

in my ec-1000 i use them both equal amounts.
esp ltd deluxe ec-1000 (amber sunburst)
    fender mim standard strat
    peavey classic 30
    johnson j-station
original ibanez ts-9 (not in use)
    dunlop crybaby (sometimes in use)
    yamaha f-310p acoustic
    taylor 410 acoustic

On my strat I use the upper half of both the volume and the tone controls. If I roll back the tone any more than that, it starts sounding way too muddy for me.

On my les paul, I am constantly fiddling with everything while I am playing, I can get so many darn sounds out of that guitar with just those 4 simple knobs and 1 switch.
