Check out this slide show of pictures from the Gibson Custom Shop's open house.

In particular, check out Rick Nielsen in pictures #05 and 08. #05 is the Hamer Rockford guitar from Cheap Trick's latest album. And #08 is the famous checkboard five-neck.

They're both famous Hamer guitars.

But they have "Gibson" logos on the headstocks.

Anybody have any ideas how or why this happened?

Gibson necks on Hamer Guitars...I prefered the neck of the Gibson Explorer to the neck on my Hamer Special. Maybe it's how Rick gets the best of both worlds...He get's Hamer body's with Gibson necks...I don't know. That's the way I'd prefer...

Hopefully, all his have Seymour Duncan pups....

My guess would be that he signed an endorsement deal with Gibson that doesn't prevent him from playing the Hamers but it does stipulate that Gibson's name has to be displayed. That's purely conjecture on my part, though. If that's the case, I wonder what Hamer thinks about that?

I doubt those were Gibson necks. The headstocks are clearly Hamers and the guitars themselves are Hamers. I think LeeStrat's theory is interesting...

I with you guys, the body, necks and headstocks are all Hamer, but it's almost like "Gibson" decals were photoshopped over them.

I just think it's funny that Rick Nielsen doesn't care where he's playing....he shows up with Hamer's to a Gibson party.

Sorta like George L. showin up to jams with a locked Floyd in Eb.

My vote is Photoshop. I suspect is it was a subtle form of "F YOU" from Rick to Gibson. Gibson turned it around on him.

The stupid part is, the people who actually care what guitars he's playing will know right away those are Hamers.

Rick knows a good guitar when he sees it... so when Gibson offered him big cash to play their guitars he said yes to the cash and no to the guitars. So Hamer ghost built the guitars for him under the 'Gibson' name.
