Go with a quilted maple fingerboard and NO inlays. Think Jackson PC-1.

BTW, if you really want it to be like KK's then you need to get it scalloped.

im not going for an exact replica though. if i was, i wouldnt be asking about inlays, id just get black dots like his. mine will also have a different finish (though still red, gonna be darker & transparent), and im sure the neck specs (profile, fret sizes) are way different. not to mention the control setup. it definately was inspired by his hamer though, ive wanted that guitar since i first saw it 2 years ago. but ill be much happier with mine being just how i want it.

while im at it, heres some examples of the finish...

it seems i just cant make up my mind about this. over the past 24 hours, ive thought i "decided" on blocks, blocks w/o the 1st, dots, diamonds, and i even threw trapezoids into the picture. this is gonna haunt me until the day i place the order

On a classic V shape I think blocks or traps could look pretty cool, plus it's not something you see every day. I'm far more accustomed to seeing dots on Vs. Go for a little variety!

I voted for dots. Anything other than dots doesn't really look good on maple. Dots or no inlays. You don't want no inlays, so I say dots. I'd still say dots, even if no inlays were an option.

i think my desire for MOP blocks on maple is because of the old LP customs like this one....

ive always loved those so i think im just looking for an opportunity to get something similar.

i was just thinking, itd probably be good to get XSSIVE's input on this. he's always been good with coordinating the right stuff

Me, I'm more of a dots person. Keep it simple is my goal. Less confusion is the best idea. But anyways, if you're wanting to have something unique, you can do vine of life stuff or whatnot....
