    Default Frampton Comes Alive

I don't know why, but something made me decide to pull it out and listen to it again. This guy has been more maligned and subsequently ignored than just about anybody, and I guess that it was a perfect example of over-exposure leading to everyone turning on someone. To my ears, the tone was smoking, his playing was on, and they did a great job of picking which performances to include. All of which leads me to wonder...

What do you think of him? What do you think of that album? Do any of you young guys have any idea who I'm talking about?

I've never heard the album. I saw him a few years ago though and he blew me away. Joe Bonamassa opened for him and darn near tore the roof off the place. I didn't think that set could be topped, but it was. Simply stated, PF is a class act. He's got some awesome chops and knows when to use them and when not to. I had a blast.

I liked the live Frampton songs on the radio, but never enough to buy the
album. After all these years (and I'm probably a few years older than you,
Rob), I finally got my hands on a good quality bootleg recorded in April
of this year--and I gotta say I'm surprised--the voice and guitar playing still
    holds up!

As an aside, I seem to remember reading an interview when he discussed
the downward point in his career: that live album and the studio follow up
('I'm In You") were huge sellers, but right after that, he made some bad
business decisions and also experienced a car accident in 1978, where he
broke his arms and ribs; if I recall correctly, he didn't even own a guitar at
tht point--not sure why. Anyway, I think he mentioned that Seymour put
together a "frankenstein" guitar and gave it to him, which was a major step
in Frampton getting his career back on track!

    (sorry for the hijack)

Many year ago, I really liked this LP and in particular that "Do you feel like I do" track when Frampton used that voice modulation effect.

I must say that I heard the whole LP recently and it didn't have the same flavour as before.

Still some nice songs, but it not one of my "guitar" LPs anymore.

Peter is a wonderful guitar player. He made some silly decisions (i.e. Sgt Pepper's) and he definitely was overexposed but these are the things that happen in that world you know.

Some where I have a live video boot of him with Bowie that was great.

I've been playing the **** out of Frampton Comes Alive in the car lately. I ripped a CD from my old vinyl copy a while back.

It's a great album - Frampton had a great tone. I love the way he has a Leslie going against a chorus or phaser, the sound comes from all around, and is very alive. But he was also smart enough to find the work-around from modulation effects' tendency to thin out your tone - using a multi-amp rig to mix some straight amps with the effects. WAY ahead of his time in that regard.

I've always like his playing, too. Very jazzy, he stays away from the usual pentatonic blues box. But somehow, it ends up remaining straight-ahead rock 'n' roll.

Believe it or not, I've never owned that album. My sister had it at one time, though, so I've heard it many times.

    I liked it.

I watched a TV special on him not long ago. Great guy, great musician.

When I first went to college (1982), there were stories about a Frampton concert (from the previous year). You have to understand that the students at this particular school were a VERY hard audience. They used a local band as an opener, and then this bald buy takes the stage. The students started booing and chanting for them to bring on Frampton. Sometime after the first song, they figured out it WAS Frampton.

More evidence that we need to listen more than we talk.

as far as over-exposure goes, its still happening on the classic rock radio station. they only play two songs off of that album.

Definately one of rocks most under-rated players. I have the CD and while I don't hit it often it is still a cool disk.

Hmm...I think you might be thinking of the Edgar Winter Group's "They Only Come Out At Night" album...here it is to freak you out again! A bit of a resemblance

It's not the best selling live album of all time for no reason...(well, for 22 years until Garth Brooks Double Live was released in 1998), but don't a bunch of you wish you sucked that bad?

He rules, and so does the album. When I worked in an office awhile back, my boss brought it in, and said I should listen to it. Later that day, he asked what I thought, and I was like, "F-you, I'm not giving it back!"
