Default Mini Humbuckers supposed to fit P90 route?

If mini humbuckers are supposed to fit a P90 route, why do I see a vast difference between the outline of the pickups in the photos on this site?

The standard P90's sold by sd have no ears and mount through screws near the middle of the pickup. The mini hb has ears. Are there mini hb's out there that have center screw mounts like soapbar P90's do?

I think minis direct mount using those outside screw holes, like a P-90 but not in the same place. If you look at a traditional minihumbucker ring, it has no screws to attach on the top of the guitar. I've never tried this because my minis came with a four-screw mounting ring much like a traditional humbucker uses.

Pickup ring. There's the missing peice. Wonder if anyone would make one with a center mount? I like the aesthetics of the center mount better. I'm not really partial to pickup rings really.

yeah once the pickup ring is around itll be a perfect fit, although you do need 1 ohh so little of a thing, you need to make a metal plate that sits at the bottom of the cavity with holes where the screw come down on, and have the holes tapped or whatever so that the machine screw will screw down into it.

can be a bit confusing, email seymour duncan about it and theill explain it. for now heres a pic ive had of it..

    hope this helps.

Scott, the pics you posted are of a P-90 then a Firebird pickup...those are not the same as an Epi style Mini BUcker...an Epi mini bucker does fit in the same route as a P-90, a Firebird pickups does not...

the picture he showed is fine, the 1st one is a normal p-90, the second one is either an seymour duncan sm-1, sm-2, or sm-3, and all of them fit fine into a p-90 cavity (with mounting ring of cource).

like i said, the hardest part will be making that tapped metal plate that sits at the bottom. which isnt all that hard if you get instructions from some people like Seymour duncan or gibson.

I'm just showing pics of what SD sells. If they aren't standard, I can't help that. Trying to glean some info here so I can make some solid tone and aesthetic decisions on future projects.

You can also do the threaded insert thing like Gibson has been doing with non-Historic P90 guitars...glued in a small hole in the bottom of the pickup rout; maybe a little easier than fabricating that part.
