Exclamation New Rivera Knucklehead KH100 Reverb Head?

Im considering buying this amp, but cannot try it first, being in a country that doesnt have a dealer.
But i have a couple of friends that have bought them and said they are great!
Can anyone tell me what the main differences would be if i ordered the EL34 version over the 6L6.
Im a Marshall guy, (was) but im just sick of mY sound.!

Plus any other comments on this amp would be good!

    thanx.

I had a Rivera KH55 and it was pretty cool. Wish I'd not sold it. It had the EL34's in it and it did a righteous clean fender on the one channel and a smokin' marshall on the other. Shouldn't have sold it.

We used to sell Riveras exclusive in Denmark, back when I worked in the musicstore....even had a Rakehead, they sound good, but I got tired of them, something is too nice in them??
I went back to Marshalls, Fenders, Vox's, Parks and so on.....it is just another "better" mousetrap.
    Not gonna miss you know!

I know Slipknot uses the Rivera KH100, both of the dudes (Mick Thompson, Jim Root) have different tubes tho... one with EL34's one with 6L6's. I think the EL34's are supposed to have better definition and tighter low end, while the 6L6's have looser, less defined sound, but with screaming crunch and harmonics? I think that's what I read, but I'm not sure.

I've played a Rivera KHR 6L6. Nice amp. Great cleans, nice gain channel with clarity, lots of push pull switches etc for multiple tweaking options. More than even a Mesa, which might be a few too many, but Rivera designed this amp to do everything. If you like the top end sizzle that a Rectifier gets, you won't like the gain channel on this amp. Rivera purposely designed it so that it doesn't have that tonal quality. I like this amp, but it's fairly expensive.

Power tubes: 6L6s have more headroom, more clarity, more bottom end. EL-34s have a lot less bottom end, but it's tighter than the 6L6s, has a snap in the mid range that L6s don't, and break up quicker for a creamier distortion. Think Mesa v. Marshall and that should tell you a lot. These are the inherent characteristics of the tubes themselves. Since it's going into the same amp, these should be the differences.

I read that, too...in Guitar World, but it turns out that they only use them for clean sounds...

Cheers guys, im placing an order for one in 2 weeks time....
Also for the Rivera 4 x 12 cab.... I think its time for a change and this amp sounds like it could be just what im looking for.
The other guitarist in the band is getting the H & K Triamp MkII, so it should be good for a interesting review!

Think i'll be broke for a good year though!

No no, the guy in question currnetly uses a Triple Rectifier.
Thery arnt all they have cracked up to be.
My Marshall sounds ALOT better. He even agrees.
But its up to the individual.

My only problem with the amp, was the tone controls were *so* interactive. Just a little tweak on one you had to go tweak the other two. It allowed for a TON of tone options, but I had to start writing down my settings. It was too much work for me and at the time I was playing with a country group and I primarily played hte fender channel. Great amp though.
