Default Who's got a Dimebucker, & are you happy with it?

Honestly, I can't say I'm real pleased with mine. I much prefer the bridge pickups in my other guitars (Distortion, 81) to the Dimebucker, & I'll probably end up swapping it out for something else. (I should say that I'm talking about drop-C rhythm use here.) Switching over to the Dimebucker-equipped axe from either of the other two sounds like I've rolled back every amp setting, like the balls in my tone got up & walked out of the room. Power chords get fuzzy, losing edge & definition.

So, give me your recommendations. I'm tempted to pick up another Distortion, as I love the sound of it in my Dean, but I'd prefer to keep experimenting & try something new.

    Music style: drop-C metal rhythm

Guitar: Ibanez RG410, basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard.

On a side note, what's the best way to get that grime off the fingerboard?

About the grime, some folks use 0000 steel wool and rub it softly against the fretboard, which should take care of the gunk on your fretboard. I've never done that, and I rather use the Fender Guitar Care pack, which includes a fretboard cleaner. Both methods seem to work.

i use the edge of a razor blade to scrape the crud off but steel wool works, i would oil the fretboard after.

as far as the dime, i thought it was a pretty cool pup but im no expert on it. how close to the strings is it? i thought it sounded best pretty close

I've had several, in both straight and slanted pickup routes (it makes a big difference) and I ended up not liking it in either. Both had the "honeymoon phase", where I thought it was great, but that wore off pretty quick.

The only guitar I've heard that pickup sound good in was a Dean ML.

maybe you should try and flip it around like Dime used to do with his Bill Lawrences, before you get rid of it. Ya never know...

I definitely agree with the "honeymoon phase" notion. I liked it at first, but after awhile I'd stopped playing that guitar in favor of either of the other two, & have been using it only if I needed a whammy bar for a specific part in a clip.

The other interesting thing that's happened to me in this area is I made a Pantera compilation cd for the car, haven't listened to them in awhile. I still love the songs & the playing, but man...I really do not care for Dime's tone! I wish I'd come to that realization before buying his pup!

I love it in the context of Pantera, but outside of that, not so much.

There's always the trading post on this forum... the Dimebucker isn't for everyone.

I personally thought it was horrible unless you wanted to do Damage plan covers ONLY.

The SD Wizard is suggesting an SH-5 Custom. It is suggesting I get an SH-5 Custom also, so they simply might be overstocked with 'em.

Clean the fretboard with straight lemon oil dabbed on paper towels. It will remove the disgusting, filthy filth and leave the wood behind as nature intended.

To clean the rosewood board, use 0000 steal wool and buff your frets with it while you are at it. After that, clean it with lighter fluid (I am not kidding, its the BEST thing to use on Rosewood and Ebony) then oil the board with something that is made to oil guitar fretboards. Not something you picked up at your local hardware store that you think may work! If not sure what products to get, do a search it has been beat to death many times!

i actually liked the pickup in his new signature dime guitars. it has a nice hot tone to it. excellent for pinch harmonics. definitely a metal sound. but like everyone says, not for everybody. but i actually liked it and possibly wouldnt mind investing in a dime sig guitar.

He's right. The Dimebucker is like a Distortion with a LOT more treble, a LOT less bass and less bass.

Unless you play damageplan, it's not a very good pickup.

Instead of alot less bass and tons of treble, one could say it has a weedeater sounding fuzz on the top end it.

I had the Dimebucker for exactly 5 days till I ripped it out and sold it!

it has a sound that i like to play around with. i wouldnt make it my main guitar pickup but its fun to mess around with. it has to do with the guitar probably. the new dime guitars sound great.

I have one in my main guitar and I like it for heavy stuff. But since I don't really play heavy stuff it's coming out.
