Anyone have any experience with the Norton (not the Air Norton)? I ordered one for one my strats. I currently use a VHPaf but the Norton has always had my curiousity. I play classic rock, hard rock, metal (80s, VH etc).
Any thoughts good or bad....

I've been wanting to know as well. It seems like a nice cross between the Tone Zone and the Fred.

My friend has it in a LP copy, and I have briefly seen it in action.Nice pickup..fat and smooth, it neither totally classic sounding nor modern, has a bit of both. You can get screaming harmonics all over the place. While the VHPAF has loads of treble, is open and doesnt have particularly nasty harmonics, the Norton is a little politer(albeit hotter) but with crazy harmonics.Check out the DMZ website descriptions.I think you'll find it pretty suited for what you're looking to play.
In fact I might get a chance to see VHPAF and Norton in action side by side either today or tomorrow![]()

The Norton is one of those AMAZING pickups. Try it out, I bet you'll like it a LOT!
I would be interested in differences between the two as I'm debating on pulling my VHPaf (no not for sale) or putting it in my Wolfgang replacing the ToneZone that is currently in it. At 12k, the Norton is about as Hot as I want to get, my concern is that it may sound compressed to me.

I think the Norton have a coil from the Tone Zone and a coil from the Fred .
I always been curious about it but , beside having harmonic galore like Fred and TZ , I fear it could be a bit compressed and not punchy /percussive enough ,especially in the bass .
Walt if you like clear and punchy pickup the DEMON is the way to go , and with an alnico 8 magnet it is even better .

It may be my favorite DiMarzio of the ones I've tried. I put it in an ash body ESP Strat with rosewood board. I had a TZ in it but it was too muddy, I exchanged that for the Norton and it was killer! Like Nebucanazza said, a nice mix of modern and vintage.
I'm starting to think that this maybe love at first dive bomb!!

The Norton is one of my favorite bridge pick ups. It's hotter than the JB, has low mids, and the bass is tighter. I had 2 Charvel Model 3's, one had the Norton (rosewood fretboard) and the other the JB (maple fretboard). The Norton sounded great in the basswood body, while the JB sounded muffled.
Will definitly open up a dark guitar.
Not my kind of a pickup; I have a used one for sale maybe 4 hours used.
JB much much nicer
