Default Antiquitie HB's, did I dicth them too soon ? (magnet change)

I had a custom made double creme set in a Historic Les Paul once and I liked the neck PU better than the stock Burstbuckers that came with that guitar. The bridge however sounded terribly thin. Now I've heard that DC coil resistance on these and strength of the magnets are all over the place instead of being slilghtly different but within certain tollerances as I assumed.

So perhaps it was just my usual luck and somebody at the custom shop picked the wrong Monday to get over his caffeine addiction. Everything that could go wrong actually did go wrong and a decent set of magnets could have made it all better ?

Has any of you done any experimenting with different magnets in there ? Stronger A2's, perhaps A5's ?

Several guys have done magnet swaps on Antiquity's...in fact when I ordered mine I made sure I had a set of full strength A2 magnets tto put in them but I liked them so much I have left them alone! That said lots of guys seem to like full strength A2 as well as A5 Ants...

I've never messed w/ magnets. If I want a different sound, I try changing caps.

I love the Antiquitys I put in one of my Premium Plus Les Paul Classics--ZERO mods required!

frpax, changing pots and caps really helps, but beyond this point magnets do a lot more. If you ever had the chance to hear a CC, a C5 and the orginal ceramic Custom you never would think its the same coils.

The guitar in question was the best one of all my historics, I hand picked them all on the tone of the wood (playing without pluggin into an amp). Further, it had a bone nut, lightweight tailpiece, CTS pots slightly over 500K and NOS bumble bee caps. With all that, it's really down to the pickups and I wouldn't have thought custom ordered pickups from the SD CS to need any tinkering.

Oh well, without these, I never would have gotten in touch with a few very talented winders.

They're not cheap enough new to the gamble and hope for the best in coils and magnets or other magnets I could throw at them, but perhaps I'll run into a used set once or just the neck PU.

Mine are stock Ants, and I've loved them. I had another brdige Ant that I wasn't as crazy about and sold it.

As was said before a lot of folks have monkey'd with the magnets and love the change. You might have tried messing with the pup hieght, which can make a huge difference.

Swap magnets all day and night if you want. It's an easy mod and very easy to reverse if you don't like the results. You learn a lot about magnets and tone in the process, so I see no harm in it.
In 1861 as the Confederate forces were about to fire on Fort Sumter, the blue and gray had infinitely more in common than the blue and red today. What fellowship can "the truth shall set you free" ever have with "there is no truth, only points of view", or "what is truth?"

Secession would be a horror. But barring a major national crisis like a Black Death magnitude epidemic or nuclear attack to erase once and for all the myth that truth is negotiable, it is coming.

Are the Antiquities wound by either Seymour or MJ? They would have been the first ones I would have talked to about it.

Magnet swaps are easy and fun. I've only done a couple but it sure opens up quite a few doors. However, I tend to stick with A5 or A2 myself.
