    Default Favorite Classical Work

What's your single most favorite work of classical music? Feel free to refer to a body of work (e.g., Chopin's nocturnes) or a single section (e.g., the second movement of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony).

Mine is J.S. Bach's "Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, BWV 582." If you haven't heard it, get a copy. NOW!

Man, "The Ride of the Walkyries" by richard Wagner is great. Same goes for the complete Nibelungenring.

I've listened to tons of classical music in my life. I have the greatest admiration for it. No pun intended, but it's really classy. However, I don't think I could tell you the name of one single title.

Extremely cliched, but Canon in D (Pachelbel) is just amazing. There are about a zillion versions of it, most of which are too slow, too fast, too loose, too tight, etc.... but there's one that is the one of the most perfect pieces of music ever.
Buy the book in my avatar. It's pretty cool.

I know what you mean; it's been used for light bulb commercials! Despite that, I'm going with it also. Beethoven's 6th would be a close second for me.

There's a reason Pachelbel's Canon in D is so cliche, and it's because it's an incredible work of art. No need to feel bad about loving it.

I saw James Levine and the Boston Symphony Orchestra perform this at Tanglewood on my honeymoon this summer. The soloists were pretty good, but the chorus was amazing!

Edvard Greig's Air. I also like just about any Wagner. Prokofiev, Mussorgsky and Glazunov.

Do you know a singer by the name of Noel? She was with the BSO/Tanglewood.

I've never seen it live - I would love that.

I don't know Noel. She's with the Tanglewood Chorus? I don't know anyone with the chorus.

Being there live for the Requiem is an incredible experience. It's the one large classical work I've wanted to hear live more than any other. Sitting there listening with your eyes closed is an unearthly experience.

Noel is on our label for a few releases - http://www.worldofnoel.com/index.php this girl has the voice of an angel. If you get a chance listen to her requiem she composed and performed this http://cdbaby.com/cd/noelsings, she is quite gifted - Boston Conservatory, Tanglewood Choir etc.

I must go hear The Requiem someday.
