    Its best to run through some notes and pay attention to the kind of pressure you use while playing before you intonate. Hey, a guitar could be intonated to one persons but, it will not be intonated to the next guy who picks up the guitar due to different pressures.
    Fretted at the 12th and open string is the best method. Like I said before, the Harmonic reads sharp. Well, on the guitar I picked up today it did but, others I have seen read flat. Point is, it is not nearly as accurate.

    I've been using the open string and fretted 12th method for about 16 years, and it always seems to work great for me.

    spoilt child. i knew how to get the 12th fret in tune with open (and yes, hence 12th harmonic-they ARE the same, read other thread). but i didn't know that filing a nut makes a difference to the first few frets. i do now because of you, thanks. that's why i asked for advice. noob, er.. playing guitar for 27 years (since i was 7). crikey! when am i going to get to intermediate?! cheers, best wishes, God bless ya. steve

    Not on a accurate and quality tuner they are not the same. There is a difference. If there wasnt a difference like you suggest, I would agree with you but, there is a difference.
