Another Stingray attack!

Geez, they're after us! An 80 year old man in Florida was scooting arround in a small boat, the stringray jumped in and left a 12" barb in the guys chest.

He had to undergo open heart surgery. Unbel ievable.

If 10-20 of your relatives were innocently killed because of an unfortunate accident to a member of another species, what would you do?

I heard that story this morning on the radio. Talk about strange. The fact that it jumped in to the boat is what's baffling. They are known for jumping out of the water so perhaps it's just coincidence that the boat was right there at the time. Who knows.

Once again, that's terrible. However, here's a question I wonder if anyone knows. When the does happen and the barb goes into you, what happens to the stingray? Does it die or grow another barb? I'm assuming the barb breaks off?

I've always had a deep hatred for those things. They are like rattlesnakes of the sea. both would rather you leave them alone, but they both can ruin your day.

When I'm fishing and catch one in galveston bay, they never leave the boat alive.

Then again, I've been swimming with the ones off Grand Cayman twice now. It's a cool experience, but I'm betting the tourists are as hot to take this particular excursion these days.
