What to get? Something with single coils that is not a strat and has a hard tail. I'm taking the baja telecaster back because of ratty frets and a completely trashed 15th fret (looks like someone went bend happy on the 15th for 4 hours straight) It was the store whore floor model, so that kind of quality wasn't unexpected, but I'm staying open minded for any other guitar that might be a good bargain. That's 860 bucks.

Please dont give me weird brands that can't be bought at guitar center.

What about one of those Music Mans? The Sub is like $699, right? I don't like that painted neck, but maybe there are some Silouhette hardtails available for cheap. I think the Sub only comes in H/H, but the extra cash could be used for a pickguard and some Duncan singles. Heck even do a tele neck and bridge pickup with a middle strat single, or something interesting like that. The Sub would be a good shell regardless.

No amount of money for any guitar is ever "blown." That said, I'd hit the pawn shops. You could turn that into a really choice axe or even two plus some Duncans!

Try to find a PRS SE EG. 3 single coils, hardtail, Mahogany body and set mahogany neck. Really nice Wide/Fat neck shape. Really cool guitars.
