    Exclamation Keith Richard's Tele Pickups

    When Keith Richards plays his Teles, which pickups do they have?

    Some good discussion here about his pickups;

    although people were answering incorrectly the answer to his question. The Blue Lena link I provide dalso has some good info about his Teles. The '72 Teles would have had the stock Seth Lover designed pickups, but Macawber would have the a5 Gibson PAF and a hotter Broadcaster like pickup. So which Tele tone are you looking for?
    Gibson LP Melody Maker -- stock, Epiphone Dot -- Jazz neck and '59 bridge, Fender Telecaster Blackout Deluxe -- stock, 90's MIM Standard Strat with Duncan Texas Hot Custom in the bridge.

    I, too, am a huge Stones/Keith Richards fan and my band does several Stones hit covers.....Brown Sugar, Honkey Tonk Women, Time is on My Side, etc. I have a MIJ 50's reissue Tele (maple neck) with SD Broadcasters in bridge and neck but I find the neck position getting the sound closer to the recordings....the bridge PUP is way too bright and I'm considering replacing it with a Jerry Donahue model (or even a Little 56'er) I have the "Four Licks" DVD and Keith seems to use the bridge PUP most of the time....I was wondering if anyone had a feel for which PUP used on which song. My favorite tones are on the open G tunings on Honkey Tonk Woman and Brown Sugar in particular.

    Contact this guy, Don Mare, at his forum.

    If he can't help you out, I don't know who can. He does rewinds mostly.

    Zhangliqun, another forum brother, also does rewinds and makes custom pickups.

    I'm sure either one of them could get you closer to what you're looking for.
