This is a great link for the color coding of all pickups:

    http://guitarelectronics.zoovy.com/c...kupcolorcodes/

Anyway, if the diagrams are right (I have no reason to doubt them), the green and bare definitely are connected together and go to ground (as they do on SD pups)- solder them together and treat them as one. Even if they're going to a switch they're probably ending up at ground. Of course, if they're going to a switch, take them to the switch. The only exception is if the green does not go to ground, possibly perhaps with a more complex series/parallel scheme. If you have the complete wiring diagram you're using and can post it, I'll check it for you to make sure this is not the case.

I'm still reading your message, looking for clues...

If you don't attach the bare, that would mean the pickup would be completely unshielded, and prone to picking up a lot more noise. If Dimarzio has a reason for doing this, I'd sure like to know what it is.

That makes no sense. Both wires go to ground. Ground them together.

Post some pics when you're done.

Take bare to the back of the pot, and green also is you're not using it to do the out-of-phase switching on yours.

As Benjy aluded to, always connect the "bares" to real ground. If you do phase inversion or series wiring, thats when a green might go to a switch rather than ground. I believe that Mustang wiring does just that. The switch that it goes to will have a ground connection . . . somewhere.

What they mean by "Do not connect bare to any other wire" is probably "Do not connect GROUND to any other wire". And you are supposed to solder green and bare together and ground them.

The reason it goes to the switch is probably to make the routing of all wires easier and more accessible, maybe there simply wasn't enough space on the back of the pot to connect all ground wires to the same spot. If you look closely at the switch you will find that a wire runs from that area to the back of the pot.
