Epiphone Les Paul 100: Any experiences?

I'm a bit tempted about getting one of these. They're very cheap, and I might just find a gem among the sea of turds that most of them probably are.

(Unfortunately, Agile and other brands don't make it here, and I don't trust buying a guitar over the net - gotta test it with my own hands first! - so I think I'm pretty short on choices.)

The Epi LP 100 has a bolted on neck while the others have a set neck. I went out and played quite a few Epi LPs recently and I found that a lot of people have different opinions on them which I can relate to some of them but not all. Yet a lot of them I think are just bashes. Here is what I'd found.

If you want a no thrill but good work horse, the Studio is probably what you want. It has the same pickups as the Standard except it does not have the covers and they sound very good though not as good as the Gibbys. Of course, most of us will end up changing them anyways. The studios I've seen lately are from China and the finish is not bad (I have not seen a Korean Studio but quite a few Standards and Pluses...). However, I did see some come with loose nuts on the tuners but that is a easy fix. They don't have the cap like the standards but I don't think that affects the sound very much. A good set up will make it an enjoyable guitar. For $50 more than the LP100 but $100 less than the Standard, I think this is a good buy. And yes, the wood is mahongany on the Chinese ones. Some of them are almost as heavy as the Korean Standards with the cap. Happy hunting.
