Default Gibson Melody Maker - current version?

I'm interested to know who here has one of the currently produced Gibson Melody Maker Reissues and can offer their opinions of it. I was thinking instead of building another guitar, I might pick up one of these Melody Maker RI's and put a Dimarzio Super Distortion P90 in it for a rock guitar.

I have contemplated doing the exact same thing as there is a killer cherry MM at my local shop.

However the MM uses a dog-ear P90, and I do not believe the DiMarzio SuperD P90 size can be used, as it's made for mini-bucker/direct P90 type slot.

Well certainly one could drill/rout, etc...but I don't believe its a drop in easy "fix".
I'm an internet person. All we do is waste time evaluating things that have next-to-zero real world significance.

I've played one and I might buy it soon. It sounded great and played nice. The thing that really concerns me are all of the quality issues with Gibson lately. I would have snatched it up otherwise.
Gibson LP Melody Maker -- stock, Epiphone Dot -- Jazz neck and '59 bridge, Fender Telecaster Blackout Deluxe -- stock, 90's MIM Standard Strat with Duncan Texas Hot Custom in the bridge.

I don't think it would need any drilling or routing.... the hole itself is the same size, I believe. The Dimarzio SuperD P90 is affixed w/ two screws on either end of the pickup, which would be inside the pickup cavity, rather than the dog ear P90 cover which attaches to the top of the body itself. I think it would be a drop in fit, but there would be two holes left on either side of the pickup routing where the dog ear cover was.

    Can someone confirm this?

The MM is one Gibson I'd love to get my hands on. I love their simplicity and they are fun to to play too.

I had one for a short while, no issues with it at all. I sold it to someone here, can't remember who right now but I do remember them saying they loved it.
