This is kinda weird. My green Machine has what looks like normal mini-humbuckers. But I opened them up tonight, and it's got these. They look like oddly made single coils, fitted into mini-bucker covers. What the heck is up here? Help, please!

At first glance it looks like some kind of mini p90.

lol This did come from Japan in the early 60's.
I am completely stumped as to what this is. The pole pieces aren't really indicative of P90's, are they?
A lot of pickups back in the day were single coils under humbucker or minihumbucker covers. I'm not at all shocked.

Thanks dude. Does it look more like a mini-humbucker cover or P90 size? I've always thought Mini-bucker.
Also, what are the odds that TV Jones would fit?
Thanks!
The covers look like minihumbucker covers. Maybe a little smaller than actual minibucker covers.
What are the dimensions of the cavities? The TV Jones pickups are 2-3/2" long, 3-1/8" with the tabs, and 1-1/4" wide.

sufferin, I'll get back to you with the dimensions. On phone right now.
And black, I've never heard them. I bought the guitar with full knowledge it had non working electronics. The pups work, I know that, but it had busted pots and terrible wiring. The first thing I did was gut the electronics.
I also had never panned on using these pups. I'm either going with P90s, SD mini-buckers, or TV Jones.

Nawww man, get a DC readout of those pickups. See what the resistance on those things are, they might be funky sounding! Find the inner Tom Morello inside you man!
If I was you I'd rig up some new electronics just to head how those things sounded man! Assuming of course, they register at 5.5k or higher. I worked on a crown Japanese guitar from the 60's that had pickups that were in covers bigger and wider than humbuckers that registered at 3.something k. In that case, it was worthless, but cool nonetheless.

Actually Joe, you're dead on. I'm going to hook these pups up in the guitar when I can afford all the electronics (and the installation - installation on a semi-hollow is expensive). I'll buy new pups eventually though, almost for sure.

Oh gotcha. Well thanks dude, I'll check it out!
Thanks for the replies guys, btw.

Those pickups are actually par for the course on a Japanese guitar of that time period. Slap them in they might sound cool. AFAIC, resistance figures don't mean much when it comes to whether a pickup is worth it or not. My Dano's lipsticks are way below 5k and they sound fantastic.
BTW, for future reference, you've been a very bad boy. Next time you get a mini 'bucker DON'T take the cover off. Odds are you'll end up with a couple thousand feet of wire in your lap.![]()
Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

lol
Thanks dude! I never knew that about mini buckers. I don't really know too much about the mechanics of pups. Thanks for the tip though.

Well how do you mount TV Jones pups?
I'm sure you can figure out how they're mounted.

I saw that. See I have no idea how those would fit in my buddy.
We'll see.
Thanks for the help, btw!
