You want funk rock? You have to listen to Funkadelic . . . any of the following albums: "Free your mind and your ass will follow", "Maggotbrain", or "Funkadelic". I can't get enough of this group lately . . .

Maggot Brain!!! the best album for funk rock. Starts with an amazing (and long) solo...

Some other things b George Clinton... sometimes it's more disco funk... but Parlaiment's "Mothership connection" is a must...

Hendrix's Band of Gypsys... amazing...

African Space Craft by Keziah Jones... sadly, very unknown but it's a great album.

RHCP BSSM... is a good one , but if you got to this post you should know it allready...

Buddy Miles (the drummer and co-singer from Band of Gypsys)- Them changes and Booger beer are good albums.


BTW. everyone always say that Extreme were funk metal... But they were only hair metal so don't bother...

SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! get the greatest hits as it comes with 'thankuforletinmebemyself' and 'hot fun in the summertime'. sly was a bad bad man! and larry graham on bass. he invented popping/slapping.

funkadelic for sure as well. the song 'maggot brain' is one of the most mind bending guitar solos ever recorded. hendrix did not have much on eddie hazel.
