chill out dude its just his opinion. There is more of a difference than just the pickups. i dont know what youve been getting but the wood is like 9 ply plywood\plastic. gibson is plain mahogany. epi tuners suck, they dont keap in tune. gibson grovers do. gibson wiring is far more superior. epiphone necks have a glued on headstock. gibsons dont. why dont you do some of you "hard work" and buy a gibson and tell me that they are the same.Originally Posted by chenchio

I love SG's and I'm my own favorite SG player.
Gibson SG Standard (498T/498R)
Schecter C-1 Elite (Custom/59)
Fender Deluxe Double Fat Strat (Carvin SD22/M22N)
Yamaha FG-413S acoustic
Marshall G15CDR
Marshall JCM 2000 DSL100
Marshall 1960A
Boss ME-50
...and just a little talent.

I like them a lot, and own 2 mid & late 70's Standards. The 78 is still stock, but the 76 has had the pups & electronics redone (Dirty Fingers in front, Invader in back), refinished to white, new frets, etc. It was my number one live guitar for about 6 years. They're still great instruments, but I've sorta retired them.
Great SG moments:
1) Buck Dharma / Blue Oyster Cult
2) Tony Iommi / Black Sabbath
3) Frank Zappa
4) Frank Hannon / Tesla

I loves me some SG. I''ve already begun collecting parts for my P-90 loaded Warmoth SG. I can't wait.
Great SG players? Duh, Iommi, Young.
Duncan Pickups in currently in use: '59 (rewound to PATB-3)/'59, Custom 5/AP2H, Tapped QP set for Tele, Duncan Distortion, SP90-1/SP90-2

ok.. did epiphone make a reissue of this guitar:

As I climb onto your back, I will promise not to sting
I will tell you what you want to hear and not mean anything
Then I treat you like a dog as I shoot my venom in
You pretend you didn't know that I am a scorpion, ya!

actually, in the 7 years i had my epi, the tuners still hold their tune. only the G tuner is a lil bit borked. my wood is not ply nor is it plastic. it aint mahagony, it's alder. there are some jewels among epis that'll outplay a gibson, but thats it though.. pretty rareOriginally Posted by yes-fan

I just trade mine for a ibanez, and now i'm sure i have made a error.....
I think the greatest sg players are definatly Tomy Iommy and Angus Young, guitarist of two GREAT band !
May the force be with you !

im just telling my experience. hes kinda making it sound like all epiphones are better than all gibsons. i wish i could get one of the "rare" ones.Originally Posted by Davey

haha, no way. maybe you initially get more bang for the buck but after a while you'll see that you kicked in the dark. you dont usually see the faulties in the 1st month, but after a year, you'll see that it's not balanced very well, the pups are ****e and 7 out of 10 times the tuners will stop holding the guitar in tune... BUT the Epi LP customs are very very very nice

I have an epiphone sg and it's a fine guitar for the money. But to me a gibson SG is the SG, nothing can ever match the origional. Just play an SG Standard you'll do what i did and save every penny and stop drinking beer to buy one. They are the most amazing guitars i have ever played. There are other guitars i like but no other guitars that i love.
For the record my favorite SG player is Mike Ness of Social Distortion.
Check the Mainliner cover that guitar is a work of art!
76 Gibson SG Standard - cherry
Gibson SG Standard - black
Gibson Double cut special - black
Gibson SG-X - sea green
67 Blackface Bassman
Marshall 1960B (v-30s)
ProCo - Rat
Marshall JTM-30
I had an epiphone sg like 2 years ago but it was a really cheap one so I took it back and then saved some more cash and got the faded (see sigiture) but i might sell that and get a used sg standard or special but i do want the burns in my signature, got a have at least one single coil guitar
I used to own the Townsend reissue SG. Very nice guitar. I ended up playing it for about a year, and sold it for what I paid on Ebay to finance a new Les Paul. Great tone, but I prefer the Les Pauls. Favorite SG player? Angus, hands down (and Tony Iommi of course!)!
I decided one of the guitars I will own before I die is one of those 3 pickup SG Custom things, in white with gold hardware, mmm... (that and an LP special doublecut with P90s and I'll be set). I bought an Epi EB-0 (SG body style) back during my (laughable) attempts to play bass (thank Jack Bruce), started out as a great bass, until I had it for about six months and it just seemed to fall apart... My basswood Schecter and Jag don't ding as easily as the "Mahogany" Epi did, slivers of wood seemed to come off if I'd scratch it with my fingernail. Oh well, good while it lasted. SG Supremes look yummy...
