Possibly to put it in proper phase with his neck pickup?

He was high when installing it? No disrespect, but it's not impossible...

Physically rotating a pup in its mount doesn't change the phase.

I don't think it would do anything in a Dime...for a slug v screws pup, yes.

Generally, the slug coil provides a bit more output than the screw coil. If it was in the bridge position, the slug coil would get a bit more string "bite" than the screw coil. So, by flipping the pup, the stronger coil would get a bit less signal, ergo, you'ld probably end up with slightly less output. The difference would be subtle, though.

so by raising or lowering the screws youll get the same effect as flipping it?

The Dime has symetrical coils, as did the original Bill Lawrences I'm pretty sure. Since DiMarzio has the patent on assymetrical coils, it's a pretty sure bet.

So, rotating the pickup shouldn't do anything. But, I've read the same thing that Dime rotated it and it made it sound different, of course, it couldn't have been something he was drinking that night....

I think I once said that I thought the Dimebucker sounded different when rotated.... I'm NOW saying I was probably full of shyte. I think people hear a lot of things they want to hear, especially stuff that's as subjective as this anyway.

Using a different guage pick could be the contributing factor in this case.
Buy the book in my avatar. It's pretty cool.

+1... IIRC it was more or less "Baggage" form his original Dean /BL days where he always flipped the PU because he felt it sounded better. I for my part don´t hear a noticable difference when flipping either PU, BL or SH-13...
