    Default New Year project...

Back around October, I started thinking about building myself a guitar from parts. I thought about going the full kit route, but more and more, I'm thinking about picking off the parts seperately. My question is this, Strat or Tele?
A Tele would probably be easier, as there's less to go wrong, and you can never go wrong with a Tele in the collection, however, would I be better off building a Strat type, so that I had a backup for my Legacy? I'm pretty confident that I could deal with either option, but as it's my first attempt, I realise that I'm likely to encounter problems.
And as a final twist, would I be better off just going for a 2 'bucker guitar?

    Strat!!!

I think Tele's are a very specfic instrument. You need them to be SS, have a 3 saddle bridge etc. I think you may as well just buy one. However, with a Strat, I think you can do more stuff to it and still have a clear concience. You can give it two buckers, of have it HSS or anything. Ultimately, I think you can have more fun making a Strat.

My opinion: if you don't have either a strat or a tele, get the strat first (versatility) and the tele second. Just my opinion.

I've got a G&L Legacy, so it's a question of either building a backup for that, or a Tele for something different.

Oh, then I'd say Tele because you sort of have a strat. You can make a tele versatile, if that's what you need (which is also what I would recommend).

i voted tele and the reason is single cut away vs double. i feel that the single cuts tend to be more lively instruments

if it was me, id put a strat pup in the neck or do it session style with a mini hum in the neck, strat in the middle and broadcaster in the bridge

I voted Tele because I love the damned things. In addition, given your situation, I think you'd get more delight out of the versatility of two different guitars vs. the need for a backup Strat.

I voted tele as well. But I agree about making it as versatile as possible. I'd go for the 3 pickup route. Possible H/S/H to maximize your possibilities. Once I'm done w/ my strat, I'll be starting on tele to fill in the "void".

I 'd say a tele with a h-s-h config. With a stag mag in the neck possition. As artie said, "It's a single coil that humbucks well".

oh I have a baaaad tele GAS!

It appears that Tele is the way to go. To be honest, I've been getting an awful lot of Tele GAS lately, but was also thinking of being practical with a backup for my Legacy. Now, the only problem is how to have the Tele...... Time for kisekae methinks!
