Could anyone tell me if those are Active or Passive?

I can tell you those are all passive pickups, meaning you wont need batteries.
As for the differences, its all about tone and personal preference and everyone has different opinions and tastes. My opinion is thats a great combo!

What you have there is a JB model humbucker, and 2 Vintage Staggered single coils. A very nice combo!

The advantage of having active pickups is that they take your guitar signal, make it sound like crap, and then amplify it!

    Ok, nice!

When you say "great combo", you mean that its (very) usable with all kind of music?? Great tone and response, clean yet powerfull... am i right?

For an axe below $600, do you think that this combo its a good choice?

As in it will sound awesome, or should. The vintage staggered should sound like good old stratocaster single coils, and the JB can play everything from blues to megadeth.
