    Default SH-4 JB Model Question

    Hi there,

I own a Fender Telecaster Custom '72 Re-issue which has the classic single coil near the bridge and a humbucker near the neck. I'm thinking of getting the SH-4 JB Model pickup to fit in my Tele to replace the stock humbucker near the neck.

My question is, can this pickup be fitted to my guitar? If so, will the pickup be ok in the neck position? The specs on the SH-4 say that it's recommended to have the pickup installed in the bridge position but if I had it in my guitar, it would be near the neck.

Would I expect any problems or lose any quality?

Here's a link to a picture of my model guitar in case it helps:

    Thanks a lot.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, standard sized humbuckers like the JB won't fit in your guitar without modifications.
The only manufacturer that I know of that makes drop in replacements for your guitar's Wide Range humbucker as part of their standard line is Rio Grande pickups.

What sound do you want out of your tele? Also, what amp are you playing through?

Perhaps with a pickguard change you can fit a standard sized humbucker in your guitar that'll get you close to the tone in your head.
    Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

I bet it would still FIT it would just look ghetto...maybe have to drill some new holes in your pickguard...this is only a problem to some people.

I hear the JB makes for a good neck pickup. I'd be interested to hear what you think of it because it would be a LOUD neck pickup...especially with a Tele bridge pickup...but that'll be a rockin guitar reguardless.

I'm in love with the Deluxe, the one with the Strat headstock and two humbuckers...

There is literally no rig more rock-n-roll than that.
