A few weeks back I posted a story about being in a single car accident that smashed up my van (just me, the snow and a couple of Jersey barriers). Well the insurance company, as I expected, totalled out the car and gave me $7,000.
My wife and I went car shopping. We aren't in a position for major expenses right now, so I wanted to try to keep the price down. We looked at a lot of places, but we were drawn to a couple of models at the local Ford dealership. Without going into specifics - it was between a 2006 Ford Escape for $25,000 or a 1999 Explorer for $11,000.
I happened to see a Ford Edge - not at all considering it - but the name caught my eye. So I turned to my wife and told her that they named the car after the guitar player in U2. She rolled her eyes.
So we bought the Explorer. It's an Eddie Bauer model fully loaded with 59,000 miles. The previous owners took very good care of it - it really looks new - and the price was just unbelievable.
We're driving it home, and my wife, being the way she is - wanting to name everything (side bar: under pressure, I had to name the two goldfish that I share my den with, so I named them PanFry and Sushi) - so she wanted me to name the car. I told her it was already named "Eddie - for Eddie Van Halen". Unbelievabley, she accepted that and now calls the car Eddie.
I don't need any more EVH threads - I drive one around.
