Wink Snow pics from Norway, especially dedicated to Florida and Cali guys

For those who have watched the occasional weather-related threads in the Sound Room, you may have noticed me posting with a profound predilection of snow and winter. I'm not joking or anything, I really am genuinely interested in nature/weather and what that can offer us. I think I am one of those who likes talking about weather -- not because of the sake of having something to say or discuss, but just because I think it's an interesting topic. (I know, how weird am I!)
Well, haven't got myself to initiating an own thread, but: when I woke up this Saturday the scenery was so nice outside my window (it had snowed the evening before, no clouds on the sky, -19C; i.e. perfect conditions!), I had to go out and take pictures. Here are some I took:

If you have snowy pics of the recent, by all means post 'em! I've heard there is quite snowy weather in parts of the US (the northern parts of New York has got 4 meters of snow by now )

    It's 5 AM, and it's 45 degrees. I don't foresee snow in Santa Cruz's future.

Where are those pictures from? I'm in Trondheim this year, and, if you look apart from the fact that the sides of the walkways here are covered with dog piss, it pretty much looks the same.

Looks alot like alaska, ya we learn to luv the winter too. My 16 year old into snowbds, I keep dogteam, and have 3 skidoos. The boy has 550 summit, and I have 2 WT skandics 500 fan & 600 liquid. I think my skandics are called lynxes in Europe. Usually put 2000 miles a year on each snowmachine, quite alot of riding.

What do you all ride In NOrway?

Polar bears. The bad thing is, they won't let you ride them unless you're naked. So, in the winter we generally stay a lot at home.

I live in finland and one of the things I hate most is the snow. I admit it's beautiful but when it's -4 degrees(fahrenheit) out, it just isn't so beautiful anymore.

Bah, I usually start to put on a jacket when it around -25 c (-13 f) outside [sic!]

Then again, the place I come from have very low air humidity, so the degrees are percieved as being much colder many other places.

Gjøvik. The lake you see in the second pic is Mjøsa.

Wow! That scenery is awesome! I saw a snowboard movie / documentary called "First Descent" (with Shaun White, Shawn Farmer, Terje Haakonsen..), and that was shot in Alaska (clip 1 and clip 2 for those interested..). The pictures from Alaska here are just - wow! I've sorta made it a goal of life to go to Alaska in the winter some time.

Sounds like fun having a dogteam and riding skandics (I'm not sure what a skandic / lynx is -- it is what you have in your picture right?).. I'm going beyond the polar circle for a weekend soon, and I hope to try out at least one of those things.. Heh, we ride cars -- but for Americans, I'd guess you'd rather call them go carts or something.. Due to taxes and duties, the most reasonable cars to buy here have tiny tiny motors! But if you're thinking about the Lapp people we have in the north, I think they mostly ride skandics.

What do you do for a living in Alaska?

Here are some shots of where I used to live in Northern Ontario (a little town called Hornepayne):

Notice the snow level, and the 7 foot chain link fence in the foreground. Then notice the tennis courts in the background . . .

Post some more Norway Picts if ya got them; great seeing other places.

My boy into snowbds, just got some Nitro board, has a dark haired beauty on her; he could have bought a nice used LP or strat for less I think. He's done alot of backcountry stuff; I'll ride him way up above timber on snowmachine and then off he goes. I've seen him ride downhill 6-7 miles takin off thru the trees; jumping moose off their beds; looks like fun for you young guys. Some places. he'll just push snowmachine off and meet her at the bottom himself. He's doing the Alyeska Spring Break thing nx month, (world class ski resort down below anchorage). Ever see a board like this one? Well, now you know someone that lives in alaska if ya ever come up this way.

We live like 75 miles south of arctic circle and see about 3 weeks of minus 55-65 F every winter. Summers are great along the Yukon River, 85 F. Aurora been out everynight and staying around minus 20C now here too. Our snowmachines are wide tracks for deep snow & hauling sleds. My sons summit is more for playing in mountains. pict of summit.

Us oldtimers ride skandics. they have wider track, better for pulling sleds & 2-3 meter deep snow that you find in higher elevations. The two middle snowmachines. Everyone around here is buying those new 1000cc 142 hp Yamaha's. 4 cycles and get 20 mpg, not 8 mpg like 2 cycles. One of these years.

We have trucks & also have a few caribou around, do you all hunt caribou & moose?

Wife and I have our teaching degrees/certificates. There are better occupations but we have always been able to find employment in some way out places and live the lifestyle we choose, which is real freedom to me.

Hope you enjoyed the picts, make sure you ride snowmachine some, great fun, and lastly, I hear you got some of these buggers where you live, every see any (wolves)

In Norway it's a good idea to wear a lot of leather to keep warm.

Awesome pics! For the past few months, I've been using you guys' snow pictures as my screensavers. That way, I can have a wintertime too!
