Default Well I think I have a band...

After working with a guitarist/singer on songs for the last few month, we had a rehersal with a drummer and a keyboard player (we probably also have a bassist).

I'm just back and I'm excited!!!!

Played our songs - there was no problem there, although they need some work. Played some Hendrix, Zep, Deep Purple and it all went pretty well...
My first session in 3 years without a jazz tune.

We would need a few equipment upgrades to start playing live - I sure need an extension cab although the Peavey was enough for the rehersal as is).

    BTW,

I think the Peavey is too sweet when combined with the Nighthawk... too much sugar... Don't think I want it this way, I'll need to add some highs to it... The funny thing is that it cuts through on solos without a problem.

    Thanks,

I'm still energized from yesterday... and now a little worried because I know those things take work. My last group fell apart when I left and it had a bunch of guys leaving and coming back in the year and a half I've been playing there.

I'm working on my lyrics right now. The singer kept messing them which got me to look at them again... some things still need work.

Another thing I'm thinking about (maybe it's worth a thread of it's own).
Is that holding a band together is harder today because we all have too many modern influences. It's not just - hey Muddy Waters is cool let's call our band the Rolling Stones...
We all listen to too many kinds of music, we actually started the session by playing middle eastern flavored songs that we like... me and the drummer had to lead an all classic rock line when the keybord player got into Coldplay...
All of us want to use elements outside of rock and pop, in a more interesting way then it is used on MTV (It's a cool riff let's rap on it :6. The problem is that it's hard to stay focused... I want to get some jazz influence inside, the singer is into gypsy music, etc....

The thing is, you've got to make sure that everyone is in general agreement on what the band will play. It's supereasy if you're doing a cover band, but making your own music is a lot more interesting. Another piece of advice is that everyone in the band should be in agreement of what each person will do. It's hard to have 2 lead guitars going or multiple lead singers. When problems like that come up, that's when people's egos get hurt and the band breaks up.
