Default Low output winds with rolled off treble?

Can this be done? I mean the rule tends to be that the hotter the pickup the more mids and less treble and vice versa. But can a pickup be voiced so that it defies this principle of pickup making?

Take for example the DiMarzio HS-3. I know it's a stacked design and isn't 100% the same thing as a traditionally wound single coil, but it is VERY low output, yet has this very very smooth and rolled off treble coupled with slightly bumped mids compared to a low output Strat single.

Or the Dimebucker, which is a VERY hot wind that is quite the opposite of the norm, because it has a very scooped midrange and tons and tons of slicing high end.

Ok so I think my question has been answered. It can be done. The question instead should be, what are some examples of this and how is it accomplished? Of course I mean how is it accomplished in a specific pickup because otherwise the answer would just be "magnets, pole pieces, satan's mojo magic, etc".

Materials make a difference, particularly the steel alloy in the screws, slugs, and keeper bar. You can also wrap some aluminum foil or copper tape around the coils and ground said foil/tape.

Plus the dimebucker uses the blades. I love dimebuckers personally ! The midrange isn't THAT scooped though. It's more of a diving mids kind of thing.

Nice! That would basically add some capacitance to the thing right?

However it works, it shunts some of the highs to ground, like a cover does.

the hs3 is very high resistance which helps with the rolled off high end, the stack design helps keep the output low
