Although some of my favourites are in the poll (Carlin, Williams, Pryor, Rock, Chappelle) I chose other as my all-time favourite is Bill Hicks.
EDIT: Honourable mention goes out to two other favourites (who both weren't on the extended list) Billy Conolly and Bill Maher

Richard Pryor in his prime was just unbeatable. Robin Williams when he gets on a roll is pretty great too.

Some, in no particular order...
Pryor Chappelle Paul Mooney (who has written for both of the above) Hedburg Bill Cosby Carlin Robin Williams And I'm with Jake 110% on Patton Oswalt, Maria Bamford and Brian Posehn. Maria grew on me the more I saw her. Patton is hysterical. I also really enjoy Zack Galifianakis... His humor is so absurd it's almost Kafkaesque.

Absolutely! Mr. Cosby could make anyone laugh without using one four-letter word or sexual inuendo...

I don't think any of these comedians are in the least bit funny.
I would go as far to say it's false advertising to label any of these as such. * Having said that, 99.9999999999% of all comedians aren't actually consistently funny IMO.

Hmm for me i'd have to say John Cleese. Python stuff of course and Fawlty Towers are brilliant.
Not for being the best of all time, but i do like Bill Bailey and Michael McIntyre alot as well. |

Good call. Whatever the man is in he pretty much steals the scene. And as you say, Flowery Twats...err...Fatty Owls...or Flay Otters...Farty Towels? Whatever it was, it was a great show!

Jeez, I can't believe I forgot to mention him - Mitch was brilliant! I loved how his entire stand up never had a single story, it was all hysterically good lines.
