Default bought Marshall today

ended up buying a Marshall TSL 100 head today for cheap... it's not my first pick in Marshalls line but as i said the price was right and it seems to work just fine so far... got it at a Pawn Shop for $699 Canadian... not a bad deal... here new the local shop wants $1999 for a TSL 100 head

i really don't have a great cabnet to run it thru... for now i have a few Peavey's i can use with it... a 1x12 and a 4x12 5150 cab..

i was wondering how the speaker jacks work in the back... right now i'm just using the 16 ohm jack into a 16 ohm Peavey cab...

but the other 2 jacks throw me off... they are switchable to 4 and 8 ohms... do i have to have both of these jacks plugged into 2 cabs? can i use my older Marshall 8ohm 1x12 in one of these jacks only?

Crap... I don't know. I've only ever plugged mine into one cab. I use a 4-ohm tap into the 4-ohm input on my 1960A, and that's it. Sometimes I use the 16-ohm output into the 16-ohm input just to be different. I've never noticed a difference in tone. (Haven't A/B'd them, though.)

Marshall models will always be a subject where everyone splits hairs on the internet, and half those people never played the damm thing.

The bottom line is there's a Marshall sound, and most modern Marshall tube amps cop it pretty well, and once they're dialed in with you and your other gear, it doesn't really matter what model it is. The TSL100 has a lot of very useable tones in it, and it's one of the few 100W heads you can tame down and make it behave.....unlike a lot of more favorable Marshalls.

I think you did good, finding a nice modern Marshall at 1/3 the price. I think you'll enjoy it a lot, especially with a Peavey 4-12 and 1-12 cab, which you can use in the 8 ohm setting. It'll push a 1-12 a lot quicker, so the lower volume will still have a cranked sound. And you can never complain about the lack of gain on the DSL/TSL models.

For a bedroom setup, I'd run an OD > TSL100 > 1-12 cab. It'll sound better than a modeling amp, and still be low volume.

ya i've been wanting a more modern Marshall for a while... in truth i just can't afford them really at full price... it was a shock to see this head sit in a Pawn shop for over 2 years so i'm not surprised they took my offer... i think it sat for so long as they sold the cab off early to someone and the head was sitting there in teh store with nothing to play it thru when a customer wanted to test it out... so i finally bought the thing... i have yet to find any tech issues with it so i'm hoping it was a great buy in the end that will last!...

i plan to use it a fair bit... i had wanted a TSL 100 at one point for my switching system rig... i have a Head Switcher system from Axess-Electronics and i wanted a 3 channel Marshall for one of the heads in this set up... now i can a/b between my 5150 and my TSL100 into a common cab... the 5150 cab stays for now for sure... Oh boy this is going to be fun.... too dam loud but fun LOL!!!!

in the summer i was going to spend $350 on a used 4 channel Valvestate head... i'm so glad i didn't... this is way better of course!

in my bedroom this head sounds good thru my 1x12 Peavey cab on teh Crunch setting... it's a sealed back 1x12 but the speaker is only a 75 watter so i'll have to be carefull i never crank it up too much..... a buddy of mine has the same 75 watt 1x12 cab... i should borrow his and see what it is like with 2 sealed back 1x12's spread apart...

i'm still wonder if i can plug a single 8ohm cab into one of the 2 Parallel jacks... or would i need 2 cabs, 1-plugged into each Parallel Jacks... i'm just not clear if i can use a single 8ohm 1x12 1912 Marshall cab with this head... I read the manual for this head at Marshall.com and it does not say one way or the other about using a single 8 ohm cab with this head...

i'm wondering the same thing about my bugera. with the jacks being parallel if i can just run one side to one cab and the other side to the other cab and it still sit at 8 ohms. the cabs are 16 ohms but they have a paralell jack on them as well.

CONGRATS ON THE MARSHALL !!!

Those are not bad amps, if you laike the hi-gain Marshall vibe.
Fu Manchu is touring with both the DSL's, and TSL's right now !
Just add fuzz and you have a seriously good tone on your hands !

thanks guys... i'm loving the crunch Channel even on lower settings! has a nice Preamp Fuzziness about it... has the modern day Marshall sound i like... At least this head works... my old JCM 800 is in the shop more then it is working! been a pain since i bought it...

but ya i'm proud to have this head part of my collection now... as far as tube amps go i have

Peavey 5150 half stack
Peavey C50 Head
Peavey C30 combo and matching ext Cab
Marshall 2204 800 head
Marshall TSL100
and an original Fender 1965 Deluxe without Reverb

Not a bad collection of tone tools
