So, I'll organize it like this:
Sock Varieties:
Heel/Ankle cut: for at home exercise and jocks when they're not on a serious practice/official game
Tube Sock: for people who don't prefer heel cuts, a good percentage of the population. Usually~21+
Jock Tube Sock: for rigorous sports-related activity, such as official practice sessions and games
Individual Toe Sock: for tween girls.

Colors:
Red-most likely for a sports team
White-normal, or very abnormal
green/brown-sports team OR hemp sock
Pink-girly girl, girly man
Purple-Entitled girly girl, girly man
Orange-sports team
Black-trying to counteract effect of wearing heel sock but not being of the population that heel socks are meant for.
Multicolored-unclassified

Toe Colors: usually found in professional-dress socks.
Black/Gold: Professional/dress setting
White/Grey: standard
White/color: (See above guide for color meanings. Same rules apply in 85% of cases)
Blue/Gold: Professional/dress setting

Interesting. I mostly just look for a comfortable black sock. But I'm definitely not part of your heel-sock population.
