Default SH-8 Invader sound clips

I recorded some sound clips of the Duncan SH-8 Invader with different settings.

Excuse my partially sloppy playing on the 2nd clip. I'm not really used to muted 16th notes via downstrokes only (as they do in blink-182).

The guitar used for the recordings is a Fender Esquire Custom GT, mahogany body, set-neck, rosewood fingerboard, plugged into a Line 6 Toneport UX2, played through Guitar Rig 4.

Scooped mids, high gain:

Medium mids, high treble:

Clean, chorus & slight delay:

I think the the last clip shows that the Invader isn't complete rubbish on clean settings. But of course, the pickup really shines with distortion.

There's a section of the forum specifically for clips mate.

Pretty good collection of clips there, shows how the Invader does with the pop punk type sound. You got some nice tones, even if I despise the songs and genre you've played!

Thanks, hehe. I wouldn't really call Alien Ant Farm pop punk, though.

I haven't played an Invader-equipped guitar for a long time and I was quite impressed that the clean sound is actually pretty usable.

Well, can I move this thread to the clips section myself or does it have to be done by the mods?

Everything on my band's myspace (in the sig below) was done with Invaders. They get a bad rap on here at times but they can be surprisingly versatile.

Lol, the "scooped" clip wasn't even scooped man.
In fact, the second clip had too much mids dude. That's cool for post metal where typically you have no vocalists and the guitars can sound huge and insane, but for pop punk, doesn't quite work that well, because it's fighting with the vocalist in the mid range territory. The mids were just kinda over bearing to be honest.

that said, I can agree AAF is not pop punk, they're alt metal/alt rock.

At least that's what the amps' knobs said when I recorded it. They were close to zero. Guess Guitar Rig 4 isn't that accurate at times.

Trust your ears, not the knobs.
I use Peavey Revalver MKIII and POD Farm regularly, as well as the Nick Crow 8505 sim, and even with my settings that are "scooped" on the amp knobs, they still have considerably more mids than say, Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power or ...And Justice For All.
Part of achieving that "scooped" sound is down to extra EQs and post processing, but to be honest I think the Vulgar Display and the And Justice tones are horrible anyway, I don't know why anyone would want to scoop it that much and fortunately your tones were way better than that.
Generally the best amount of mids for vocal music is not boosted nor scooped, just a balanced right amount.

I usually use EQ plugins when I seriously record a song of mine. The clips were intended to give someone who wanted to know how the Invader sounds a basic idea.
And yes, right about the 2nd clip (Rock Show by blink-182), the mids are a little overbearing.

Invader........many ridicule it, but a select few admire it.
In the bridge of a mahogany guitar through a Marshall half stack drop tuned to D or C, it's the most sinister, face melting metal rhythm pickup on the roster. It absolutley snarls.
