Pickups for Basswood (for shred)

What kind of pickups sound good in basswood. The guitar is a Peavey Predator EXP. I want an articulate and defined sound in the neck with a fair amount of output. Not to bassy though. In the bridge, i want something crisp, crunchy and bright. Amp is kinda dark with relatively low gain. I dont care what brand. Duncans or Dimarzio. This should help some of the Ibanez guys too. Thanks guys

On the solo for Near Dark, as well as on New Riff, that's my Jem going straight into a Roland VG-88.

i have a Distortion neck in my basswood Ibanez RG1550 for lots of definition under high gain settings, good if you solo in the neck.

The Distortion bridge absolutely rips and sings in a basswood body. That is by far my favorite combo. I can't say for sure what to use in the neck position though. Full shred might work out nicely

I have an Ibanez with basswood body and it is bright and full of mids but not much bass , in the bridge was a DD was but it sounded too treebly with no deepness , i changed it to a C5 and it is even , same in the neck i tried a jazz it was good but not deep enought so i changed it to a Demon and it's so good .

I personally love basswood bodies as they are usually very resonant. They do have midrange tone emphasis, so get a bridge pickup with more low-end response. I don't think a JB, for example, with it's midrange emphasis, would be a good choice.

a 59 neck in the bridge of a Basswood guitar sounds EVIL.

the Distortion in my baswood RG1550 has an interesting partner- Screamin Demon. this humbucker i like because there's sufficient bass for high gain riffing & more lower midrange for absolute growl factor. of course, it does shred well too...

I have DiMarzio Steve Special bridge and Air Norton neck in my basswood Ibanez JPM (pretty much an RG)....

The air norton is awesome, I think you might like it....it has a nice smooth, balanced warm tone but doesn't get muddy...even under high gain...it has wonderful dynamics, very expressive and responsive to your pick attack....

Now the Steve's Special...it's a good pup, with the right amp...it's VERY hot.....it has a mid range scoop, so when soloing if you don't have a mid heavy amp or a way to boost your mids the Steve will sound too thin IMO... but with the right set-up it rocks

It's very good for heavy riffing as well, but I think it's more of a lead player's pickup... It has kind of a uniqueness to it... It was designed for John Petrucci and he uses Mesa amps...here's the description from dimarzio:

"Steve's Special™ is a non-traditional approach to high-output bridge humbucking pickup design. Hot humbuckers usually concentrate most of the pickup's power in a narrow frequency bandwidth for maximum impact. Using our patented dual-resonance design, Steve's Special™ takes the opposite path, spreading the sound over a broad range. Bass and treble frequencies are boosted while the mids are pulled back, so the pickup's power doesn't kick a high-gain amp into overdrive as easily. Both these pups sound great when split as well...especially the 2 inner coils in parallel...

This description of the Dimarzio Steve Special could be applied to the C5 , the difference is the alnico5 magnet in the C5 , then probably less power but more warmth .

I'm thinking i might go with the Demon in the bridge and the distortion in the neck, or maybe a Dimarzio Breed in the neck. Thanks for the input; got a good idea of what i can do
