24 frets, set neck (as opposted to neck thru, I hear they sustain better), Mahogany for even more sustain, any shape that allows an upper fret access and no neck dive, thin-ish neck (eh people shred on LPs so it should be doable :P ) and a Floyd rose. If you use 10 tunings, get 10 shredders.

One that's held by someone that someone that can shred.
![]() Seriously, this is too subjective a question... there is no ultimate. It's what works for you. |

Well I love my Jackson DKMG... thats perfect for me and nothing I've found fits me better...So my vote would have to go to the Jackson DKMG... thou I've heard the RR1 is a lean mean shredding machine

Carvin DC127. Neck through, dual humbucker, 24 frets, sculpted neck heel, original Floyd Rose.

Flying V shape; I've come to find that they are, hands down, the easiest shape guitar to play standing up.
Alder body, neck thru maple neck Ebony fretboard JB/Jazz, or DD/FS for more output 22 Frets; Since I've gotten the RR, I've come to realize how much better the neck pickup sounds on a 22 fret neck. OFR, of course. Essentially, an RR-1, or a KV-2 if you really need those extra 2 frets .

The holy grail of shred guitars, for me, would have to be a Gibson SG Supreme.
It's got 24 frets, set mahogany neck, ebony fretboard, flame maple top, and dual humbuckers. I'll just have to throw a set of Duncans in there and it'll totally rip.

Because you can stock them any way you want with thier list of options. At a price that's comfortable to the wallet. But, back to the point. Most shred guitars formula as mentioned. 24 fret neck. Jumbo frets. Easy access to the 24th fret. Sculpted heel(bolt on)or no heel(neck thru). Floyd Rose with lock nut. H/H or S/S/H pickup config. H/S/H is good too. Flat fretboard radius usually 14 or 15.Some prefer the contoured 12-15 radius. Body shape is up to you. As long as it fits the bill above. Any guitar can be shred on. But, for the things that are most common in shred playing these suggestions help to make that playing easier and more comfortable. Shredding on the upper frets of a LP is a bear. Unless you got really really long fingers or large hands so the heel doesn't hinder your playing. I love my LP style guitars too. But, I do play on them differently than I do on my Carvins. Kent |
