SLASH

The Ultimate Modern Guitar Hero

Since emerging in the late '80s with Guns N' Roses, Slash has defined the modern guitar hero, while his consistent playing style and powerful, expressive guitar tone have epitomized what it means to have a signature guitar sound. To get that sound, Slash has always chosen Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Humbuckers. Now he has his own Seymour Duncan Signature APH-2 Alnico II Pro Slash pickups, which are wound with just enough boosted output to push a stock Les Paul towards that rude crunch and sweet sustain for which Slash has always been known.

Seymour W. Duncan on Slash's Tone

"I first started working with Slash during the Guns N' Roses days. He's always been consistent with his look, his playing, his style, and his tone. Over the years, we sent other pickups for him to try, but he always kept coming back to the APH--the Alnico II Pro Humbucker.

There are two schools of thought on how to achieve distorted electric guitar tone. One says, use a high-output humbucker and drive your amp harder. Slash comes at it from the other end. He uses a moderate output pickup and then calls on his amp to dial in the 'dirt.' Both ways are right, but the advantage to Slash's mehtod is that a moderate output pickup is going to clean up better and give you more pleasing and more articulate cleans tones than a high output pickup. There are no hard and fast rules. It's what works for you. And the APH works for Slash."
