Pearly Gates™

Our country-fried Pearly Gates humbucker pickups transform any Les Paul style guitar into a classic rock outlaw. The Pearly Gates neck captures all the mojo of the original neck pickup from Billy Gibbons’ 1959 Les Paul. It is a P.A.F. with a unique tonal variation that provides more midrange than typical humbuckers from that time. The result is a neck pickup that cuts through with stronger tailored mids, but still has the open and airy treble attack of the alnico 2 bar magnet. Combined with a warm, spongy low-end, this pickup is great for both rhythm and lead playing.

Seymour discovered Billy’s bridge pickup had slightly more output than most P.A.F.s, which helped to give it the extra drive that make this pickup so special. The alnico 2 bar magnet keeps the high end sounding airy but focused, and the midrange emphasis gives it a unique Texas sizzle. It really has a growl all its own and will help to bring any humbucker-equipped instrument to life.

Hand built in our Santa Barbara, CA factory, the Pearly Gates vintage output humbucker pickups use an alnico 2 bar magnet, nickel silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and are vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance. The Pearly Gates bridge is available in both standard humbucker and Trembucker spacing. As with all our P.A.F. style humbuckers, every Pearly Gates is wound on Seymour’s original Leesona winding machine from the early Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for that unmistakable vintage mojo.

Philip Sayce “Mother”

Philip Sayce is a true master of his craft, wowing audiences around the globe with his blend of blues, rock, and meticulously crafted tone. Since the late ’90s, one guitar has been the driving force behind the sound of his solo career and his time performing with artists including Jeff Healey, Melissa Etheridge, and Uncle Kracker. The “Mother” Strat® is a modified 1963 Fender Stratocaster®, an incredible workhorse whose wear and tear match the intensity of Sayce’s electrifying performances.

Philip has been known to bust out an impromptu slide guitar solo with a beer bottle. One fateful night, the original 1963 pickups in Philip’s guitar got doused with beer and eventually bit the dust after succumbing to corrosion and shorting out. However, when he swapped them out with some special pickups sourced from a 1958 Strat®, “Mother” took on a whole new life and legendary sound. These slightly underwound late-’50s pickups brought out a clear, full-bodied sound that has been the hallmark of Philip’s guitar tone ever since.

By taking great care to reverse-engineer the pickups from “Mother,” the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop was able to recreate the singing, punchy Strat sound that emanates from this magical guitar. Chimey, bell-like cleans easily morph into the sizzle that can be achieved by adding an overdrive or one of Philip’s favorite fuzzes. The Seymour Duncan “Mother” Stratocaster® Pickup Set gives you period-correct Alnico 5 magnets with just the right wind to match the feel and responsiveness of Philip’s original guitar.

The first 500 sets of the Philip Sayce “Mother” Stratocaster® Pickups are specially aged in the Custom Shop to match the look of the originals. They include a certificate of authenticity signed by Philip and Seymour W. Duncan inside the limited-edition packaging. All sets are pad-printed with Philip’s signature on the flatwork.

For those wanting great vintage Strat® tone and Philip’s powerful sound in their own Strat®-style guitar, look no further than the Philip Sayce “Mother” Signature Stratocaster® Pickup Set.

Black Winter™ Rails

For those who crave relentless power in their tone, Black Winter Rails brings a ferocious new edge to our legendary Black Winter pickups. Built for the heaviest, most extreme metal genres, this evolution combines the crushing aggression of the original Black Winter with the modern advantages of rail design. The result is a passive pickup that delivers searing high-gain tones with even greater string-to-string balance, tightness, and sustain. Whether you’re shredding through fluid leads, executing thunderous palm mutes, or pushing the limits of drop tunings, the Black Winter Rails offers the clarity and control you need to dominate the mix.

The addition of rails to our Black Winter’s brutal triple-ceramic magnet foundation takes the original’s high-output intensity to a whole new level of precision and performance. By evenly distributing the magnetic field across all strings, the rail design ensures unparalleled balance, even under the heaviest distortion. This tightens up the low end for focused power, while extending sustain for screaming leads that demand attention. Whether you’re chugging through drop-tuned brutality or layering intricate chord progressions, the Black Winter Rails keeps every note defined, giving you the responsiveness demanded by modern metal players.

Black Winter Rails are available for both 6 and 7-string guitars. No matter if you’re executing crushing riffs or unleashing scorching solos, these pickups are ready to transform your tone. Handcrafted in Santa Barbara, CA, the Black Winter Rails deliver unmatched clarity, sustain, and power for the most extreme styles. Don’t just play: dominate. The result is our Vintage Jazzmaster® Silencer pickups, noiseless Jazzmaster® pickups that don’t compromise on tone.
