Friends of Seymour Duncan: Hamer Guitars

Let me begin by saying that I have absolutely no qualms about admitting my love for all things rock and metal, including the various bands that rose from the streets of Hollywood’s Sunset Strip in the 197s and 1980s. Along with that love, comes my admiration for some of the most beautiful and well-built instruments ever made in the United States: Hamer Guitars. Continue Reading

Seymour Duncan’s 2015 Holiday Gift Guide

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time of the year again. The annual Black Friday stampedes, er, “sales” have officially kicked off the holiday shopping season. Last year it seemed as though some people in my household may have read my 2014 Holiday Gift Guide, because Santa was very kind. And I did not receive any hot pink acoustic guitar-shaped earrings. Plectrums: Finding Your Pick of Destiny

The guitar pick. A tiny, humble object that has a revered place in the hearts of all guitarists and some bass players too. Even Hollywood knows about this magical relationship. Yes, this is your place. I am talking about internet forums. Before them, it was almost impossible […] Continue Reading

The SD Custom Shop: Bass Edition

Ever since I got the SPB-4 Steve Harris Signature Pickup in my Lakland 44/64 bass, I've been pretty happy. Out of all the Seymour Duncan Precision Bass pickups, this one is easily my favorite and sounded the best out of all the other SD pups that were in my bass. But, restless spirits being what they are, I wondered if I could change the sound again which, after looking at the pickups again, wandered over to the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop to see what they could whip up. Taking It To Passive

We all do it. Buy a new instrument, play it, say it's the greatest thing, and then start pouring through the Seymour Duncan website, looking to get that little bit "extra" out of your sound. For many bassists (myself included), this usually means installing an active preamp into your bass. But what about those folks that have an active bass but want to make it passive? Yeah, it happens.
