Default The Well, volume Jake (XXI)

Thanks to Skarekrough for passing the torch.

It's my turn, so feel free to shoot whatever questions you like.

    Some general info about myself:
    • My birth name is Jake, not Jacob, since my parents knew even if they did that they would call me Jake anyway.
    • I've lived in the Houston area my entire life, though I'm not sure where I'll live once I finish college.
    • I've played guitar for about eight years or so now. I have a Les Paul Studio, but I have more of an attachment to my Schecter PT Elite which was 1/3 the price of the Les.
    • One band I've seriously been digging lately is The Extraordinaires and I would absolutely recommend them to everyone on the forum. Part modern, part folk, all good songwriting. "Hi Five The Cactus" is one of my favorite songs at the moment.
    • I'm not exaggerating when I say IMO "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service is one of the best songs ever written, even if there is a distinct lack of guitars.
    • Most of you know I was in a pop-punk band for about two years, signed an indie deal and made an album - some of you here even bought it. If you guys want, I'd be more than happy to go into the story of why I left or tell some other band stories, few as they may be.

An interesting story: My uncle was also a guitar player, and was good friends with ZZ Top guys for a while. The only thing my uncle left behind (he died in the early 80s) was his early 70's Les Paul, which, according to family legend, was a gift given to him by none other than Billy Gibbons. Of course, I have no way to verify this, and we have no real way of knowing. That Les Paul sits in our house in pretty bad shape, and my father can't decide if it would better to remember his brother by letting it sit in a case forever, or to actually fix it up and let me use it. It's not my call, and I never even knew my uncle, so I'll let my dad decide how he wants to remember his brother.

Alright, I'm off to get ready for class in a minute, so go ahead and start firing away.

I quit back in January, since I was passed on a promotion. That, and I knew my girlfriend (who also worked there) and I were probably going to be hitting splitsville soon (I was right), so I took the initiative to GTFO. I know about as much as a $7.50/hr tour guide is supposed to know I did enjoy the job at times though, and I still have a great interest in the space program.

Houston traffic does suck, but a lot of the times there are shortcuts/backroads you can take to get where you want to go. For example, back when I worked at Space Center, if I took only freeways and main roads I'd be looking at a 30+ min commute, but by taking backroads I always got there in ~20. I also live in the suburbs on the east side of town, which has exponentially less traffic than, say, northwest houston.

I like both pretty equally actually, but if someone held a gun to my head I'd probably say brunette. It all depends on the woman, really.

    Breast man/butt man/Leg man?
Since I guess I can't pick "All of the above" I'll go with the b00bage.

    Up or down?

Not sure I follow the question.

As corny and overdone as they may be, I love me a good sunburst stratocaster. Also, a part of me has always wanted a BC Rich Warlock. They scream cheese metal, which is why I would find it hilarious to be in a pop band and have one of those.

Guilty pleasure in bands / artists?
I get made fun of for a lot of the stuff I like, but I try to keep my mind open when it comes to certain artists. Among the more guilty, I love really poppy music, like Blink 182, Green Day, etc. I also really dig a lot of singer/songwriter types, like Ryan Adams, David Gray, John Mayer, etc. The most guilty pleasure is probably My Chemical Romance. Pretty much everyone makes fun of me for liking them except for 14 year olds and a few people from New Jersey, but all three albums they have are solid start to finish.

    Guilty Gear?
Never played the games, sorry dude

You know....I have no idea. But if I find something, I'll let you know. I live five miles from the 2nd biggest monument in the U.S., and live down the street from where the city of pasadena annually breaks their own record for the world's largest strawberry shortcake. Houston and San Antonio are among the largest cities in the U.S.. (Houston is #4) and traffic in Houston can reach epic proportions. We get gigantic hurricanes and tornadoes, and....you get the idea.

To everyone else, I'll get to your questions a little later....Monday is an unusually busy day for me, since I have three classes on Mondays (as opposed to having two other classes for the rest of the week) so I'll try to get back to you guys tonight, and if not I should be free tomorrow.

If we were having a few beers, and I was to say "Deathcab for Cutie is the dumbest f'ing band name ever", would you agree, or disagree and provide an alternative?

Also, what kind of beer would it be?

    Jake...

What is your most embarrasing moment?

What's the no-panties chick who came on to you up to nowadays?

What foods do you find incredibly difficult to resist?

When do you feel most 'at home'?
